A few days ago, @Benji reached out and we got chatting about tracking the E86 Z4M Coupe ๐. Heโs heading to Kyalami at the end of the month and wanted some advice on track prep.
He mentioned that on his last track day he experienced brake fade ๐ฌ, so he was looking at upgrading to Ferodo DS3000 pads, and also wanted to sort out the brake fluid. We agreed that once he had the pads, heโd swing by and weโd get everything fitted and ready for the track.
Today he popped in. After catching up for a bit โ, we got straight to work โ car onto the lift, wheels off, and the old pads out ๐ง. In went the Ferodo DS3000 pads. We then filled up the pressure bleeder with Motul DOT 5.1 brake fluid, which has a higher boiling point than standard DOT 4 and is a nice step up for track use without breaking the bank ๐ฅ. All four corners were bled to remove any air and make sure the pedal feel would be spot-on โ .
Once everything was buttoned up and the wheels were back on, we went for a quick shakedown drive (with me behind the wheel) ๐๏ธ. The brakes felt great โ firm pedal, good bite โ and once the pads are fully bedded in, Benjiโs going to have a lot more stopping power and confidence on track ๐.
Was great meeting you, Benji โ all the best with the Z4M, and enjoy Kyalami! ๐
