Okay the blue E34 540i is now safely home in East London, after a quick 1400km test drive. Did some driving around Cape town as well, bucket list items, Chapman's Peak Drive, Francoishoek Motor Museum, Paarl to Worcester , some wine land routes on the trip home.

It may be 23 years old, but drives nicely. Keeps up with most younger stable mates (certain Red Z4 in the George area, will know what are talking about ) and over takes like a rocket, had to keep an eye on the speed, climbs at a rate in no time plus the sound that V8 makes over 4000rpm, is a sweet sound track, had to set cruise control to control myself from “over speeding”.
Rick540 your mods still working beautifully, with 34000km's plus, that motor is still great, just wants to go!
Fuel usage is heavy in the city - very heavy, but on the open road, we got 12.4 km per litre my modern 1.6 Pug gets, only 13km's per litre at the same speed but does no sound as nice!!
Budliegh and Rick540 thank you for be good care takers.
Next task, RWC, and then changing front seats, still got the heated sports seats from the silver 540i I sold a while ago, some colour , and these can go into the 535I #race car.

hi
Just been adding up the fuel slips for the trip home, Over all avg fuel usage worked out to 9.4km per litre or 10.7l per 100km
that included driving around in Cape Town in the RUSH HOURs, Chapman's peak drive, drive to Paarl and winelands and a load of hill climbs /mountain passes, and some angry driving after the 7 stop and goes on the N2 on the last 200km part of the trip.

Not bad for a 23yr old 4 litre V8 auto, with a Time warp booster under right loud pedal!

Update:
Was quoted 17k to 20K to fix the Motor, due to "low compression issue".
So I decide to let it go as I've got "Dad's" E39 540I Touring still to sort out and I sold the crappy French eco-box and got another german toy from the Benz family - that has become my daily drive and toy. So the E34 was sitting, plus when we used it, it was a pig to start and starting giving issues, like motor cutting out in traffic etc.
So told some friends I was thinking about it, a day later Eugene phones me, I take car to him , SOLD in 5 minutes, warts and all.
His late dad had one, so he wanted one.
Lucky for the E34 and the rest of my fleet/ projects/toys (I need to see a doctor some time) he has his own Workshop and is OCD

Well the E34 has new , windscreen, dash, lights - another Gearbox (the cutting out in traffic was a sensor on the shifter) etc
It is been well looked after.
So are the Benz's and "Dad's" Wagon - as I said Eugene's OCD makes he's standards very high in his workshop! Actually told to wash me cars before I book them in :roflol:
Maybe the next E34 I get will be a touring. But the Benz's are floating the boat in my old age.
