Hi Peeps ,

Trust all is well with the Fanatics familiar

Got a issue with my stroker, it seems every year my crank bolt decides to come loose or play.
I build a stroker about 3 years ago, head was done by Van der Linde and block, C38 crank done with Allan Y Brink
Cost a pretty fortune the engineering work, but all good, we assemble, we drop in and i drove it like hell.
Did almost a good 20 xxxx Kms already.

Last year Oct 2022 i had a issue with a knocking noise, decided to check it up asap, harmonic balancer and pulley for belts felt like it had play.
We took off and yes the crank bolt (Jesus Bolt) was like loose, i ordered new bolt and washer from agents. We decided to take the motor out.
Managed to get a truck torque wrench and we torqued 420nm, was a mission but ja sorted out,

This year end of June i got a knocking noise again, checked the power steering pump was making a hellavar rattle, took the belt off and noise went away.
But now i when i switch off the engine, hard switch off sounds like a pre ignition, jacked up and i can see play on that pulley and crank bolt has play.

Im asking for assistance from the M20 2.9 Stoker gurus, what could make that bolt come loose.
Please note, no miss, no bearing knock, oil and water all good,
car starts on the turn and idles like it should, drives like it should, but to avoid a castrophic engine bearing knock, short term solution
new bolts and washer, torque to spec, long term solution i dunno and asking for assistance

This weekend i will be pulling the motor out

Any assistance please

The crank bolt will drift loose due to engine rotating assembly vibrations.

If my engine I would strip it teflon coat the piston skirts and then send the whole assembly in for dynamic balancing.
Rods pistons crank harmonic damper flywheel and pressure plate.

A good opportunity at the same time to inspect bearings.

A friend of mine was having a similar issue with his race engine. All seems good during testing but as soon as he started driving it hard the head would flutter from the block. Tried different studs and bolts, various torque settings and head gaskets.

Peter's suggestion would eliminate any unknowns.
