Hi I have a 2011 E90 330d Auto on which the driver engine mountings were replaced with Febi units with the vacuum valve. The RH mounting collapsed within a month and was replaced by the suplier under warranty.. second mounting collapsed within a month again and was replaced with a Bruck unit (without the vacuum valve) which collapsed within 2 weeks..checked the bracket for cracks or wear but nothing. Any assistance on what could be causing this mounting to fail so soon.. btw the left mounting is still perfect. Please help

Check your gearbox mounting bushes, mine were completely torn in half.
This would place extra strain on the engine mounts, not quite sure if it would be enough to cause one to fail so quickly but worth a shot.

Gearbox mountings seem fine however there is wear on the diff bushes

There has to be something causing the engine to move.

Are there any knocks or clunks when you hit a big bump?
Maybe check all the bolts on your subframe and make sure they are all there and snug - torque I believe is about 150Nm.

Considering you checked gearbox bushes I would hazard a guess you confirmed all the bolts holding the gearbox to the engine are tight and in place too.

Maybe the worn diff bushes are allowing enough flex under load for the engine to twist ever so slightly though I would expect the gearbox mounts to wear first.

Just for interest, did they remove the gearbox mount bushes and inspect them or just check they were tight and in place?

Maybe get the car up on a hoist with all the belly pans off and get stuck in with a crowbar to see if you can move the engine and what the culprit might be?

Car was put on a lift and inspected but mountings were not physically removed and checked for wear…we did test for movement with a crowbar

No weird aftermarket mods that might interfere with the mounts - excessive heat etc ?

The engine does tilt onto the drivers side so that mount does take more load but it still shouldn't fail prematurely. I have heard that any other brand then OEM from BMW can be problematic and maybe, just maybe, you have had bad luck.

I assume no funny engine leaks or corrosive contaminents have been on the mounts. My last thought would be to support the engine from the top and undo both engine mounts to check for perfect alignment.

Car is stock standard..no mods or engine leaks .. next step is to strip the mounting bracket out and see for wear on that…

Just for interest sake:

My engine mounts were partially collapsed, no tears or leaking fluid just sitting lower than the replacement units. Only when I removed the gearbox mounting bushes did I realise these were torn.

I found that the engine had been moving so much it had been rubbing on my brake lines in the engine bay and worn through the outer metal layer and some of the Teflon inner section which could have been fun.

Try and find any info or tutorial or YouTube video on replacing brake lines without making up new ones in situ.

Good luck, I hope you find the problem. 👍🏻
