Charlton's Koup

As many of you know I had to let go of my beloved F30 about 2 months ago. Still miss her dearly and she will always be my best/favourite car, but I don't regret selling her. She made a lot possible by going to a new home.

I needed something cheap and cheerful to get around. There weren't any special requirements for the replacement car besides not wanting something I need to get out and help push it over a steep incline, and that wont frustrate me too much given my driving style (lead foot). A buddy of a buddy had this 2016 Koup sitting in the sun and weather in on his driveway unused. It had 88 000km on the clock and the last service was Feb 2024 at 86 000km. He done like 5000km in the last 4 years. Guy has a garage full of bikes, a 350z and a ford danger. The 350Z has done even less mileage.
Went through with my cousin one Sunday morning to checked it out. Mechanically it was sound but in desperate need of a service. The car was neglected, but it was cheap. Given the oke lives in Kommetjie and the car left to the sun and elements the paint condition gave me chills. Decided its cheap enough to get right over time.

First two pics are from before delivery

Two weeks later I went and picked it up. It was very dirty. All my senses were triggered on the drive home.
Booked it immediately the following day at the office for a full valet and the Saturday with my cousin's help we gave her a full service, fresh oil, new plugs, all filters and new wiper blades. Brakes and break fluid was still good so left it and will see to it with the next service.
The following week I send the car for a detail. It took 3 days but the paint is looking much fresher. I cant believe its the same car.
Next up was to order new rubbers (not new new, but from a low mileage koup being broken up for spares) for the driver door as it is badly distorted from the sun and a farmless window with bad rubbers is going to drive anyone insane.

Took a snap on the day the F30 left. I also just had to a pic I took in the same spot I took my favorite pic of the F30 as can be seen in pic3.

At this point my cousin asked me if I am going to rebuild the entire car as I fitted a android unit as the standard one was just too small and dull. Added paddle extensions and a Temu bootspoiler because why not.

Got bored and fitted stripes and a "front lip" from a universal lip I found amongst my cousin's parts pile.

Unlike my previous cars, it does not have a name, its just called the koup. I don't feel any sort of attachment or anything to it and even drove it up Paarl Mountain.
For now I think I'm done. Also bought a house as my son is going to live with me from January and my youngest daughter is applying to do her articles this side. So a one bedroom apartment just wont work. Its not bad either power wise. Claimed figures are 152kw and 265nm.

Anyway its not a BMW but fellas here is "the koup"

Very good looking car.Hope it serves you well.

Some spacers and a small drop would look really nice.😋
Thanks bro. I'm trying hard to stick to the "done" part and you not helping with the good mod suggestions. Already trying my best to convince myself it does not need a downpipe.:ROFLMAO:

My neighbour has one of these with an aftermarket blow off valve and it always makes me giggle like a school girl when it dumps like an old school subaru.

Thank you all for the kind words. I never intended to spend money on the car outside of maintenance and getting it looking right and be "usable". Saw it as a tool and nothing else.
Then again there is the fact that I could never leave anything stock and I think she is starting to grow on me. So time will tell.

For now I need to focus on getting the house stuff sorted and I have bigger plans too. Met the most amazing lady on a wine farm 3 Feb 2024 and things has just gotten better and better. My kids love her and my youngest daughter latched on to her December and the two of them have been chatting every day since then. So wedding plans are on the cards. Not letting this angel get away.

The interior was a lot better after the detail but I was still not happy. Seats, console and dash was still too dry for my liking, so I gave it another treatment with the help of my old friend Maguiars and a black trim polish treatment I bought online (can be used on plastic, vinyl and leather)

This is the end result. This "tool" as I referred to the car is becoming a project it seems🫣.
I just wanted it looking better and be useable, but somehow a to do list keeps finding its way into my head. Need to remove the insolating strip I placed on the body by the driver door before I got the new rubbers. So please ignore that for now LOL
