BMW Tyre Cover and Cosmetic Care Insurances

Hi peeps,

Who uses BMW's tyre cover and/or Cosmetic Care? I am considering getting these.

Additionally, are there better providers and how easy and quick is it to claim (in general) for specific items.

I hit a pothole 2 hours after getting the car and noticed on Monday I got a bubble on the one tyre. Replaced it but I realised that these lower profile tyres are far more susceptible to damage than my previous vehicles were.

As for the cosmetic care, I just want to get and keep the car in a pristine condition as if it was new. Maybe DIY is the better route but I don't have the knowledge to do it.

Think there is a limit of like 4/6k on the cosmetic damages? Not sure..

What brand tyre if I might ask? my goodyears loved sidewall bubbles, no issues with Bridgestone/Michelin

That is the thing. I might never claim but I might also have a situation that I do claim. One doesn't want to spend R12k on tyres on day and the next you have to replace them because of a stupid pothole or something. This is why I am weighing up the worth of this.

I have Bridgestone Potenza RE050 on the vehicle.

I took the BMW Cosmetic cover - let me tell you its useless

We have been to a BMW repair center on three occasions for petty incidents, namely:

1. Scratched rim – wont repair diamond cut wheels only replace – over the limit

2. Tiny chip on a door – requires blending on two adjacent panels – over the limit

3. Tiny dent on the boot lid – over the limit

All of the above fall in to the valid repair guidelines, except nothing can be repaired on these cars with this cosmetic repair plan.

i have wheel and tyre care with MFC, i financed my car with them so they called offering their cover, was something like R70 a month, i thought why the hell not, knowing i would not use it, but oh boy was i wrong.

Last year sometime i had a blowout on the freeway (thank god for run flats), this was on a Saturday and all the tyre places was closed, come Monday morning i purchased a new tyre.

Tuesday morning i called MFC tyre claim department and told them i had a blowout, they asked me where i am, told them i am in Midrand, he gave me 3 fitment places i can go to, to change my tyre (
just needed to give them my policy number) , i advised them that i had already changed the tyre, this was no problem they just needed me to send them the following:

- invoice for the new tyre
- new tyre on the vehicle
- damage on the old tyre
- picture of front bumper with number plate on

No questions asked, a week or two after that money was paid into my account.

So tyre cover, if found at a reasonable price, seems to be the way to go.
