Hi Guys

Hope you are all well.

I need some insight to a issue I picked up today.

My vehicle X3 20d G01 2020 went into BMW Midrand today for a replacement on the starter.

I picked up the vehicle this afternoon and the server advisor Juanita said to me. If I had my SoS telematics battery changed. I asked her what was that and why. So she said because she's picking up that the mileage recorded is 147000km while the service records show it at 105000km the current mileage. So I said not that I know off because I called BMW midrand when purchasing the vehicle and they said the mileage checks out with what is recorded on the car at that time of purchase which 93000km. She then proceeded to run her service history and picked up that the SOS telematics was changed at 77000km in 2025. She then said that the battery does cause the mileage to change at times and they had a similar issue with a 3series as well. I purchased the car Feb 2026. She gave me the print out of the service history.

Would like to know if this is the truth that she is telling and has anyone else encountered this issue before?

I have to take the car back for her to update it with BMW SA to the correct mileage.

Thanks for all you guys assistance with this.

I had my telematics battery changed with BMW under plan, all research I have done was done lead to the mileage and trip computer block being annoying when the error is visible and your bluetooth gets impacted also.
Nothing pointed to mileage correction or freezing issues though.

Hi

Thanks for all the assistance.

This is the feedback i received from BMW SA this morning regarding the mileage issue.

Good morning Mr Mahomed,

I hope this email finds you well.

Please note that your mileage concern was escalated to the BMW South Africa Technical Department for investigation and assistance.

The Technical Manager has confirmed that your vehicle’s mileage was not manipulated. The discrepancy was caused by an error that occurred during a dealer visit in September 2024, when a diagnostic interface was incorrectly transferred from another vehicle to yours.

As a result, the matter was escalated to BMW AG for further investigation. We have since received confirmation this morning that the mileage discrepancy has been successfully resolved on our systems.

I understand that your vehicle is booked in at BMW Midrand on Friday. Jacques and Juanita will carry out a thorough inspection and diagnostic assessment to ensure everything is functioning correctly and to confirm that all vehicle information is now accurate and in order.
