Going back to what the grills looked like in the 30s.. But at least those looked the part, I dunno... I have seen renders of the new M3 too.. With this exact grill.. :fencelook:

If you look at the leaked pic of the orange car doing the rounds which was confirmed as legit, take note of the bonnet visible in the pic. it looks like it is shaped for this type of grille

I think it might have started off as a quirk or joke in the BMW design offices, until it sort of caught on and was viewed in a different light besides being a quirk. I think I've fallen for this silly quirk. I hate to admit it but, I like it.
