Hi Guys,
Please can I have some advise on the purchase of a new key.
I have a F30 2017 model and I have lost one of the two keys that came with the car when I purchased it. My car was bought from a BMW dealer so both keys are originally from BMW.
So I am now looking to buy and replace the key I lost, hence I have no spare key at the moment.
BMW dealer wants R6038 for a new key and I have called an after market auto tech workshop to compare prices which is costing R2500 for a new key.
So I asked the after market workshop tech what will be done and he said he will be adding an extra key to the system and will be deactivating the lost key (The spare key will look like my current original key) yet when I ask BMW what is the process for a new key and they give a long run down with my logbook and copy of ID required. BMW says that if I lose the key I have then this will result for them to change some computer box which will cost me R35k for two new keys.
Anyway I still have one original key and I am not sure what to do as R6k vs R2.5k is big difference.
Can someone please advise what will be my best possible option for me?
