BMW E46 Cluster repair Durban

Let us know how it goes.
I had the same problem with mine but got a replacement one to fit. But would like to fit the original one back to get rid of the tamper dot.
Hey man, Sadly mine is not repairable. I have a burnt track and had one bad capacitor, the 220uF 35v one next to the burnt track. I tried bridging the track, but it has some pass through to the other side of the board which I cannot bridge.
If the track that was burnt did not pass through, it would have been fine, but this track is just so small it is virtually impossible

Ah OK cool man that's tough luck.
Do you have a zoomed out pic to see the location of that area?

I did not take a full pic of the board. But It is to the left of the temperature guage shaft. It is a track directly connected to the negative pin of the 220uF capacitor. Making that l shape.

Note, they won't all blow in the same place. If your model is the same as the other once, you can simply swop the chip to the new one and your tamper dot will disappear though.

Yeah it is the same
I will prob have a look at over the holidays

I got a 330i cluster in the meantime which is working fine. I have a 330d but they are both motometer units.

Cool, man, if they are the same models then the chip can be swopped over and your vin and mileage obviously transfers over.
Tip, when removing the needles, do not use a fork or yank on them. Twist them anticlockwise while pulling, the twist losens them and after a few turns and light pulls, they will come clean off. It is really the simplest part of the job.

I have to find a donor unit now so I can transfer my chip. This thing being dead gives me no visibility of what is going on temp wise, errors etc.
