Basically the sleeves are better supported and can take more boost, heat , stress etc.
The crank is only as good as it’s design. I can’t comment as I have heard no reports yet. Hi
FWIW, the S55 M4 engine has a weakness in that the cam chain gear on crank can come loose and cause major damage.
If you go look at any built motor, the block is your backbone and needs correct strength to support twisting action and combustion.
FYI, the coyote normally aspirated V8 in the mustang can be boosted very safely and supply 600kw safely .
That to me is the sign of a good design. The B58, which is designed for boost , (hence should be stronger), should be able to supply 400kw safely.
Only time will tell.
Obviously there are many other limiting factors such as gearboxes, driveshafts etc.

I regret that decision. Would have been way happier with the N55, I had 2 previously.
There are known issues and failures on them locally and internationally. I personally know of at least 6 B48/B58 that share modules and parts that have failed.
But hey, what do I know, being my 10th BMW and this POS has convinced me never to own another, its must be a fantaistic engine.

What has happened to yours? I’m not really stressed due to motorplan etc, but I’d also be pissed off I had to constantly be taking the car in for something. 16k Kms on mine so far and all fine. I also chose this over the n55 m2 as I wanted a more practical daily. Fast car, but not the most exciting, m2 much more theatre
