Hi guys wanted to find out if anyone knows if there's a big power difference between a bmw 35i motor and the 20l s3 quattro. A BUDDY of mine has a 135i and says the Audi with s3 sits with him... Is there perhaps something wrong with his car or are a Audis usually that quick?

There are many versions of the S3 Quattro

165kw version (8L: 1996 - 2003) - 1.8L
188kw version (8P: 2003 - 2012) - 2.0L
206/228kw version (8V: 2012 - present) - 2.0L

It cant be the 8L 1.8L because you mentioned its a 2.0L. Which 2.0L S3 are you referring to here? Also, is the S3 modded or standard?

The S3 has quattro (don't get me started on Torsen vs Haldex...) while the 135i is RWD. This means the S3 has better grip and is easier to drive fast by a less experienced driver. The 135 will bite the head off of an inexperienced driver who tries to push it hard.

Also, the S3 has more use of lightweight aluminum compared to the 135, so that may give it a small edge.

While I respect both cars, a real driver will go for the 135

OP, it’s difficult to answer without knowing in what scenario this was done ( i.e was it from a dig to 100km/h or rolling up to 200km/h etc.). You also didn’t mention if either car is modded..

The 8P S3 will not be much of a problem for the 135i, but it would be fairly quick off the line due to Quattro.

The 8V S3 is a very capable car all round and a stock 135i will not beat it easily, if at all.

The 6-pot in the 135i should give it the edge on top end, though.

It was standard s3, it's the two pipe one, not the 4 pipe...so I would think it's the 8P....

The 135i was not molded, the s3 might have been not to sure... Wasn't.... Zero to 160

Yup, that’s an 8P.

No chance it will keep up with a 135i in stock form. They do have great potential when modding, though.

From a standing start a stock 8P S3 will get away, however the 135 should pass in 4th.

On a roll start, the 135 should pull ahead from the get go.

The 8P S3 and the 135i(2008 N54) was actually tested at Gerotek by Mark Jones, the 135i wiped the floor with the 8P throughout the test . The 0-100 times even differed by a lot more than a second in the favour of the 135i.

I have actually never been too impressed when having runs with the 8P S3s,they don’t seem to get off the line as well as they should(stock). The 8V changed that completely though

It would be a good race to see...

The race shouldn’t last very long stock vs stock. But a modded 8P S3 runs like crazy

Not mod for mod,no,but a decently modded s3 8P would beat a stock 135i IMO. It’s only fair
