I'm sure some of fanatics think I should be shot for mentioning M car and fuel consumption in the same sentence :fencelook:

I certainly did not buy this car for consumption, but rather to enjoy my daily commute a bit more. The decent fuel economy is just a cherry on the top for this car and emphasises how good they are as daily drivers too.

Well I think that the fact that a brilliant M car such as this can deliver fuel consumption which makes it feasible to own as a daily is hugely impressive.

Hit almost 5000KM in the M3 and average consumption is 11.2l/100km. Been tracking consumption using Fuelly:

For those with Fuelly, here is the source data: Link

OBC seems to be about 1l/100km too optimistic most of the time compared to Fuelly. Car is still completely standard (except for the E92 19s) and around 147k KM. I use the car as my daily driver. Did one trip to Durban - that's where consumption dipped a bit. Overall though, for a performance M car, can't really complain about consumption. I randomly get the thumbs up from many strangers in traffic - still love this car :inlove:

If you ever let it go, what would you let her go for?

Not sure - no immediate plans to get rid of her :dunno: Guesstimate for value would be around R220k to R240k, given where the mileage is at.

Alot of highway miles?

Except for the trip to Durban, not too many highway miles. Very similar consumption to my ex E46 330i auto.

made a trip to durbs the past week in my e46 M. My fuel consumption over the full weeks trip is 9.1l/100km. The drive down did better than the drive back up to jhb, 8.4l/100km going down and 8.8l/100km coming back up. Drove quite relaxed, close to the speed limit :fencelook:. seems to be more frugal maintained at speed around 140kmph

i once asked a guy what the fuel consumption was on his M3, he crapped all over me telling me to go play with Golfs for such a dumb question.

Car looks stunning i always like the red, and would love to own one someday.

Well done, great figures. Couldn't get close with mine.

All said my e46 was lighter than the e90, ok sure its a V8 compared to a 6cyl, but BMW claimed that the e9x M3 will be lighter on fuel as it utilises lighter body and suspension components as well as a lighter engine. Not forgetting other tech to save on fuel.

I can't get much better than 11l/100km on long distance, did see high 10s once. Even with the car being in 7th gear for most of the time, meaning low rpm's.

The best average consumption I ever got on my previous e46 M3 was 7.2L/100 coming back from the Vaal river @ a steady 120 on the cruise control. Daily driving also came to +/- 11.5L/100

Now the CSL........ eish.

1000km over 3 months = 4x tanks of fuel:bangdesk:

My M3's sitting just short of 15L/100km... Not really used for commuting though - the odd highway trip combined with blasting through the burbs.

Haven't even put 500 km on it.

Need to get it decatted and properly remapped, then take it easy for a while to check consumption...

330i is returning 8.9L / 100 km at the moment... The current tank is sitting on 630 km and still reports 100km of range left. Lots of highway travel and relaxed cruising to Randfontein & back. FML.
