Hi Guys, I'm looking to buy a used 2009 BMW 335i Manual... I have been doing some research on consumption, performance etc and it all looks good.

I just want to know whether these cars have any common faults/issues I should be aware of before buying, so I figured let me come ask the experts...

I'll appreciate your feedback.

let the list begin.
i'll start it with the most common one
Waterpump - expect a replacement around 4.5 - 8k

Thanks man, in that case I assume a maintenance plan is non negotiable.....

Waterpump
Injectors
Coilpacks
HPFP

Biggest problem is the fuel consumption when abusing the loud pedal :crazylaugh:

Bought mine 2 months ago and I knew it was raced quite a bit and made power before the mods where removed.

The day after I collected the car it popped a coilpack.
The week after that the waterpump packed up.

But even with that happening and knowing about most of the N54 problems, I still love it and don't regret buying it.

Did you maintenance plan cover all of this or did you fork out hard cash?

Not a great second hand buy if off MP, unless you have lots of cash in the bank and you using it as a weekend car.

N54 motor's seem to have more problems than n55. N54 are a little easier/cheaper to mod than the n55.
Still the best car I've ever owed. MP ended Dec 2014 and I got a 2 year extended warranty thingy as I was also worried about the known issues. Risk has been worth the reward.
Fuel consumption, um yes, um it can drink petrol, but again worth it for the feeling.

Woodies, how is the consumption on long distance?

Open road is pretty good. If driving between 120-140km/hr I average about 9l/100km. Town/start stop driving is the problem. City driving 14/15l/100km.
Average for the last year is 12l/100km. My old 325ci was just over 10l/100km.

Do eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

While on the maintenance side i wound not have a clue, how problematic these cars are...
However, common issues highlighted as far as performance is concerned are as follows... courtesy of fanatics survey!http://www.bmwfanaticsnatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=66996

One shall enjoy a 335 for at least one of the following reasons :biglol:

1. For safety purposes
2. Overtaking trucks.....
3. its like insurance..., you need to have it .., in case you need it...
4. To get out of and away from situations quickly
5. After a long day at the office - the drive home with soo much power under your foot is the best feeling
6. 335i engine sounds better than the other 4 cylider engines
7. if I ever need it, its there, in my pants and I know its there
8. The more the better. It's Fun!
9. It's all about the feeling.
10. Too much power, is jes raaaaaiiit!
11. fast cars are the absolute tits
12. I Sleep better at night just knowing I have all this powers
13. It just brings a smile to my face watching the little eco boxes fly past me on the downhill
14. I have no issues overtaking. Fast cars are generally more reliable sticking to the tar as well
15. The points above are exactly why we want the power

I am pretty sure they meant to say 335 engines are better than 4 cylinder engines, as long as they do not break, and are well rested during weekdays :roflol:
