Resurrecting an F80 BMW M3 "30 Jahre"

I was curious to see where you’d go after what felt like BMW’s “last number,” and I mentioned in your M8 Thread before that I thought it might’ve been something from the Porsche stable as that is usually the natural progression.

So, it’s interesting seeing the move to the M3 Jahre , it's still a special car, just not quite what I expected in terms of direction. I’m pretty sure I saw that same Macau Blue one on FB Marketplace a while back and from what I remembered it didn’t look like it was in the best condition based on the visuals that one could see.

Given the cosmetic stuff and now the mechanical issues you’re uncovering, I do wonder if it might end up being more work than it’s worth? Either way, will be interesting to see how it plays out and wishing you the best of luck. Thank you for taking us along with you on this journey of yours.

The plan was to get into a G80. Thats still the plan. F80 wasnt on the cards.

This is more of an itch that needed to be scratched. Taking a 400k loss on the M8 was not what i was willing to do on a trade in for the G80.

Visually its actually not bad hey. It has PPF on most wear panels all around. No paint work. Apart from some swirl marks its still in good shape. Interior is very neat which is what sold me.

So far dealer has covered the parts that have been replaced so i havnt spent much out of my own pocket.....Yet....

If you see it at we buy cars soon, then know i gave up on it :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: but hoping for a good outcome in the end.

I really did try not for the post to seem negative or critical in any way or form... With regards to the condition that I saw online, it felt like they photos were really badly taken and it seemed like they didn't even bother to properly wash or give the car a "basic detail" based on the price it was being advertised for at the time ...

No dont stress bud.... Criticism is welcomed. I think im harder on myself because i want things to be perfect.
I knew getting in this car was not going to be smooth sailing :ROFLMAO: took up the challenge anyway.

Do you remember the price and how far back that was?

Roughly +- R1.3m iirc, and this wasnt too long ago, maybe 2 or 3months back... It only stuck in my mind because I was just randomly browsing cars that I can't afford and was surprised when I saw this price versus for a jahre which was badly photographed etc tried searching again but can't find the advert. Was a sales lady advertising the car at a dealer that I also can't remember

Okay i never paid anywhere close to that price :ROFLMAO: I seen a couple around that price with lower mileage (+- 60k km). But those are very clean.

Congrats Karsh bru!
What a journey, however I need to echo your words here...I have a very special place in my heart for the 30 Jahre, just because of its colour and the way it looks...it is a damn sexy car and I have never owned an Individual car after my E90 Individual and the Individual colours grab your attention very easily and very hard to get rid of.
I say good on your for keeping it, I would not have expected so much issues with it, however it is a new second hand car and we all take a gamble when purchasing one even with a clean report.

Seeing that your air filters were last changed 2019, mine were last changed 2022 ... this doesn't surprise me but that is normal maintenance and it may have been owned by someone with less worry about a vehicle than we do here on this forum.

I wish you the best always on the journey to restore her, because I think that period where it is running damn well...she has your heart already and for some reason this car seems more emotionally connected than your last 3 cars...maybe this one will stay longer

Congrats Karsh!

A slight bump at the start, hoping it will be smooth sailing going forward though!
I love the colour and the optional extras sheet seems pretty good for an F80.

Are you still looking to get into a G80? Your comment about the F80 feeling "raw" and bringing back a feeling you last had with your E46 M3 makes me wonder if the G80 will scratch the itch as much as this F80 does?
I have not driven either so cannot comment based on my own experience, although there was someone at work who went from an F80 to a G80.
Whilst the G80 seemed to build speed quicker and put down the power better it lacked feeling, the F80 felt more like a race car according to him and wasn't as enjoyable of a drive for him vs his F80. He sold the G80 and is now in a 911 Carrera S (991.2)

Thanks bru.

Ill still look into the G80. The wife likes the G80. Its more comfortable. She does not like the F80. But i have been given grace to own this car and have my fun in the meanwhile :ROFLMAO:

Alot of people that moved from the F8x chassis to the G8x platform have given the same feedback. The G80 seems like a more balanced car in terms of sports and comfort. If you looking at a more track focused and driver engaged car, the F80 will defiantly tick that box compared to the G.

Porsche will always remain king but its not a family car for holiday trips. Maybe one day when i have enough cash ill have a Porsche in the garage for that me time.

Congratulations bro.

The car is now in the right hands. Wishing you all the best with it going forward, and I know for how many years you have been itching for one.

F80 is damn looker in stock form. It didn't need a getting used to, to fall in love with it, like the G series Ms. It was love at first sight.

Many happy miles and smiles ....
