I had use of a Lambo Urus for the better part of today and I'm sorry to say I can never give up petrol power just to save a few or a lot of Rands, I love driving too much
Yeah I hear you. As long as I have one car that takes a fossil fuel I will be happy. Dunno, hybrid the way to go maybe? So maybe a I'll go G90 M5 :ROFLMAO:

So collected the car on Saturday morning. Having now spent some time in it I am very impressed. I drove it into work on Monday (Northcliff to Sandton and back) and although the silence is weird, you adjust quite quickly. I then drove the 8 to work on Tuesday, and to say the experiences are worlds apart is probably an understatement.

The acceleration is absolutely brutal. Although the 8 and the i4 are similar in power, the way that i4 just fucks off is mental. Sorry, that was the only word I could find to adequately describe it.

It got caught in rain on Saturday so needs a wash which will happen this Sunday, then I'll post some updated close up pics of it. Both my wife and my son are thrilled by the acquisition. And admittedly, so am I.

The silent drive must take so much getting used to.

Build quality and the Sound system really needs to be top notch as there now is now no sound from any engine or gearbox.

Congrats, what mean looking machine.

It does take a bit of getting used to. The 8 is also exceptionally quiet for what it is, but you've always got that rumble in the background when not in Sport mode. But the i4 goes to a different level. It's got Harmon Kardon sound system which is exceptional and some Hans Zimmer sound effects which adds a bit of drama. But other than that, it's like sitting in a library. Nearly knocked a car guard over yesterday cos he didn't hear me πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

One thing I like, which I never thought I would, is the front fascia with the big grills. It's grown on my very quickly I have to admit.

I wonder if the Hans Zimmer (Im a big fan of his work) optimized the sound of his sound effects to create a good as possible sound stage unique to the Harmon Kardon sysetm unique to your cars layout. Knowing him, im sure he and Harmon did.

There can never be any creak or rattle as now you will def notice lol

The cars are well insulated for their purpose, they use special EV tyres which prevent noise, in addition in the cabin you can't hear much outside of the car. My wife pointed out in the ix40 she cannot hear trucks idle (its muted) in a sense vs in my car you hear all of the crap on the roads, I have noticed the same.

Oh yes, there was a key rattling in the centre console because of the way it was stashed and I went digging to find it, such was the silence in the car. Your hearing almost becomes hyper aware of any sounds around you because there's absolutely zero sound other than road noise from the tyres. It's weird as hell. The Zimmer effects are in a setting called Iconic Sounds, trust BMW.... lol.

I was inspecting the tyres the other day, because they don't come with run flats thankfully, and they're a Pirelli P Zero EV tyre. There is so little road noise from them and they really do absorb our wonderful Jozi roads very well. And 100% on the insulation, you hear basically nothing from outside the car.

The 8 is at BMW for brake fluid flush and a recall campaign on the prop shaft, so will be stuck (well not really) using the i4 for the next few days while that's getting sorted.
Quick pull in the i5 M60. It was so fast it blew my pants off.

These things are manic. I reckon with a simple downpipe and stage 2 tune though I can get the M50 to this power (and they laughed and laughed and laughed)......

Considering what the G90/99 is like, you may as well take the i5 M60 over it if you like the look and want the speed

I'm building out an entire ROI/TCO thing on the comparison ownership between ICE and EV over the next 6 months, with having both now I think it's good opportunity for me to do this, and that will drive the decision between going hybrid or EV next year to replace the 8. And one of the cars I will look at will be the M60, or even the i4 M60. I'll do enough research and number crunching, and will probably narrow the options down to the new i3, the new ix3 M50, i5 M60 and i4 M60, and the X3 30e for hybrid. I'd obviously prefer to stay within the brand, and between BMW, Audi and Mercedes I think BMW has the more mature EV program seeing as though they've been at it for 12 or 13 years now.

There is a dad at my son's school who has the i5, it looks very cool. Told my wife if I go hybrid she can expect an M5. Her response was not good.

I thought that being married brings more than enough grief.. Seems I was wrong.
You're right, maybe I should get one of these instead for a run around ICE car....
