To test your G01 knowledge ;)

Do you know where the warning triangle is?
Do you know how to remove the sliding cover cassette/bracket that is fixed behind the back seat?

(It took me a long time to figure those out šŸ˜‚)

Ha ha ha!

1. Yes I found it on the day I brought it home, to the left side of the boot next to the medi-kit.
2. Yes, that lovely hidden button on the right hand side pops this out (found it on YouTube video when I was looking into how brutal off-roading can the car handle or else I would have been stumped ha ha

Congrats Ash. This looks mint. I think the X3 is one of the best looking and solid built SUV’s.

Won’t be ash Quick and sporty as your 135 but that’s a different type of car to be replaced in future hint hint.

Yes agree with you, this one replaced he wife's IX35...the M135i replacement is still due...if I don't get this one to swop out for an M40i or X3M in future :) ha ha

Hello all,

I don't not really have threads of late, even my M135i... I didn't get down to detailing everything on it much however this one is going to make an appearance (thanks to Charlton) ha ha.

So with having sold the M135i last year and having 2 diesels to use was bliss, fuel consumption was great but the wife's car (The IX35) was approaching 100000km mark and becoming a bit of a nuisance.

It faired very well but it needed a suspension refresh and a new clutch which costs almost 60% of my total M135i ownership bill excluding fuel. This mostly due to astronomical pricing on parts and also availability was a bit low too. The car served its purpose and with the wife now working in Sandton and not CBD any longer she didn't really want to drive an SUV any longer.

So I decided that after 9 years time for a change and have been test driving many cars. Many did not cut it in terms of quality and also ease use... especially since I am doing a lot of activities that require an SUV still because many road conditions have changed a lot as well.

After a good few months of scouting, I am almost signed up on a 30d Xdrive X3 but the condition and feel of the vehicle just didn't sit well.

I was initially against the G01 shape but when I saw this one for sale for a great price and and spec, I decided to test drive it and give it a chance. Many colleagues also have the 20 Xdrive and all are very impressed and happy with it but i think what really got me to change my stance on it was the Adaptive LEDs, it really does give the G01 a 'facelift' for lack of a better phrase as opposed to the normal LEDs.

This one in particular was a one owner, seriously pedantic owner... lady driven (aircon still blows ice cold lol) but also did I mention VERY well taken care of. To a point where it needed no recon from the time it arrived, I checked it many times to spot anything that could need touch ups etc. but besides 5 stonechips on the bonnet and 2 on the bumper, everything else was pretty much in great condition , almost brand new still. Inclusive of the interior door step and boot protection stickers are still even on and the infotainment screen even has a the protection layer on it.

It has a decent list of extras (Taken from specs sheet):
212 Brake System, Country-specific Equipment
22W Double-spoke style 699 M, 20" with mixed tyres
2VG Performance Control
2VL Variable sport steering
300 Emergency spare wheel
337 M Sport package
3AC Trailer tow hitch, fully electrically operated
3MC BMW Individual roof rails high-gloss Shadow Line
402 Panorama glass sliding/tilting sun roof, electrically operated
431 Automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror
481 Sport seats for driver and front passenger
4K7 Interior trim finishers Aluminium Rhombicle with highlight trim fin.Pearl
Chrome
4UR Ambient interior lighting
552 Adaptive LED headlights
5AC High Beam Assist
5DM Parking Assist
609 Navigation System, Professional
688 Harman/kardon Surround Sound System
6AN Concierge Services
6AP Remote Services
6CP Smartphone Integration
704 M Sports Suspension
710 Steering wheel M Leather
715 M Aerodynamic kit
760 BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line
775 Anthracite roof lining
7S9 ConnectedDrive services package
8SX Telematics and Online

Pics below of the car when I viewed and test drove it and on day of delivery. I would have liked to have electric seats with memory and the upgraded cluster however I am more than happy to live without these 2 items and go with something that has been taken care rather. And as luck would have it, the cluster can be retrofitted :)

P.S. Some of the pics are a bit distorted because I had to drop the size to post them.
amazing post! such a clean and stunning vehicle! Love the white color! always was my first choice.

Update on the X3, this car has become mine now since my wife has taken my Polo TDi and not wanting to return it so... I started fiddling with this car.

After fitting the Grills and tips from Rennzport, I decided to do the mirror caps and a bootspoiler to match the rest, the car looks good and complete with these two things in. I got the larger bootspoiler but it kept coming of so I ordered the winglet from Firi and so far, stays on the car and looks minimal yet neat.

The car sounded great and still gave great consumption, and with motorplan ending in April, I sent the car in to BMW to get a proper healthcheck and check if anything else requires any maintenance. This also gives me a good base of knowledge on the car for long term ownership.

I managed to get a set of H&R spacers from Luis, at an absolute steal so fitted them onto the car. 15mm front and 12mm rear did some justice the wheels sitting too much in...I don't mind a more aggressive set but for now it works well. (Pics below of when the car was done - could not capture before and after very well)

Once that was done, I felt the 20d is a great motor but needed a 'pick-me-up'in the mid-range because that is where you could feel it struggle on the highway.
So enter the trusted steed, Xcede...it was once again a real bliss to deal with Juvan and the team. The service has improved where I thought it could not get any better.

Thread of experience linked here:

https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/threads/xcedeing-expectations-as-always.102252/

I must say, with the car going from 124wkw/381wnm to 150wkw/418wnm...the torque side left me a bit wanting but when I drove the car and it adapted...those numbers are just that...on the road the car has improved so well with drivability, and fuel consumption drop is much welcomed.

I then wanted to check the air filter out but at the same time since off plan, I decided to upgrade the filter to a K&N, however stock was limited and I managed to get a hold of a BMC filter through Nishen at TMSS who got it for me within 2 days (Super services from Nish as always). Condition of the original filter was horrible and it was last changed in December 2021!!! (Pics below of filter)

Now once this was done, I was still unsettled as I was also used to all my cars being tuned once I had supporting hardware in place. So I was researching a bit and came across RAZA Automotive and they had a special running on the DPs. I know Nishen was moving right now and my itch was too much to scratch and then I saw @whiteunderarm did his G80 there and he was very impressed with the work and service. The guys are great, service is great and I cannot complain...the products is well put together and so far no issues. Comes with a lifetime warranty.

The cost was way lower than most, at almost half in fact and I decided on a Friday to give them a call. Low and behold, I reached at 11 and at 11.35am, drove out with the car fitted with a Stainless Steel DP.

To say the car has come a bit more alive or possibly placebo, the butt dyno picks up that the car is a bit smoother now when boosting but that could be due to the better breathing patterns.

Also, the turbo sounds are much louder and pretty decent...pretty loud too for what it is.

Had a small incident the day after getting software with a learner driver braking three times and lunging between lanes so going to get that fixed but minimal damage so that is nothing to worry too much about. Pull a dent and touch up one small area and done.

Otherwise, the G01 20d is still an impressive vehicle, for its size, the real world consumption as well as now the power to match or make it a bit of a pleasure to drive.
Next up on the cards:
1.Trip back to Xcede, to retune the car with the downpipe and see how much more we get out of it.
2. Wanted to retrofit the rear window shades but managed to get a fitted set of window shades for now.
3. Possibly upgrade the cluster to the full digital one should the stars align.
4. Gearbox, diff oil services etc in the future.
5. May just do a Spoiler and skirts but still not 100% on it since the car does require clearance with some of my ambitious fishing trips.
6. Also get a decent leather cleaner and something to maintain the dull on the steering wheel. I hate when it starts to get shiny and reaches a point of no return.

Car is looking the part! šŸ”„ You should have grabbed my springs when I still had them…I think that’s what I would consider next…unless you’re planning extreme off-road adventures 😁 Oh and a set of LCI taillights to finish the backend.

Thanks Mister!!!

You a bad influence in a good way ha ha! I don't think my 20d engine would have had the desired effect with your X3M springs bud. The last time I tried to fit 30d springs onto my e90 20d, the front was travelling in a low-rider kind of look, the front was higher than the back because the engine weight was lighter.

But yes, this car goes through some bundus to get to the scaley friends...so will go a bit easy for now.

Here was my 20d with springs and X3M Rims for some inspiration 🤣 This was before I moved everything over to the M40i…
