Congrats Nabeel,

For getting this, you have bought a perfect all-rounder. The issue though, upgrading from this is going to be very tough, the bar is now set VERY high!

Wishing you many happy and safe kms! The black on black looks beastly!!

Hi Guys

I would just like to say a huge thank you for all the kind words and love towards my new (to me) F85 X5M.

I have owned the car for just less than a week now and I can honestly say that I am absolutely loving it and it’s very addictive and fun to drive. It’s definitely a car that I needed for a very long time now. Took it to Knysna for a weekend away with my girlfriend and a few friends. I enjoyed every bit of driving it to and from the entire journey. I’ve always heard M cars to be rather harsh on road trips but this one was actually reasonably comfortable and I had been driving on sport plus most of the trip. I averaged about 12.7 which isn’t too bad considering it’s a V8 with all that power although consumption figures did start to shoot up the more I began tramping it on those open roads.

I also had my first ever race with it which was against what looked to be a “stock” Golf 7.5R, which I won comfortably 😂😂😂 despite my car being a lot more heavier than him. Overall, the car is an absolute joy to drive and I definitely see myself doing a lot more road trips with it in time and keeping it for as long as I can. I actually haven’t even touched my RS3 since picking this one up, I’ve used it to work today and I probably will use it the whole week. I’m in 2 minds about the RS3 as I’m not sure if I should sell it and buy something else or maybe keep it and perhaps daily drive it when I’m based at the office and preserve the X5M a bit for those long distance trips.

Apart from achieving my first ever M car before 30, I have also signed my life away this weekend as I have a wedding to plan. Only a matter of time until the soon to be vrou will be getting a new car and I’m thinking M240i or M140i for her when she’s ready. But anyways, I’m absolutely loving the X5M and so is she and our 4 legged son who sleeps by it every night in the garage 🐈.

Just a few shots of the beast while away during the weekend 🌊

Thanks my bro

Blacking it out is definitely the next step with this car. Grilles, side vents, badges, maybe even a front splitter and I also plan on blacking out the wheels to give the entire car a murdered out look.

If you're planning to blackout the chrome bits, you should note that it is tricky to re-paint - the paint does tend to peel if not applied correctly. You could wrap it but you won't get the paint finish.

Alternatively, you could keep the chrome parts and buy the OEM blackout parts from BMW or aftermarket (this may be the cheaper alternative as well).

Regarding your wheels, they look to have diamond cut sections. From my understanding, if you refinish them in black, you'll have to cut away at the wheel to get the diamond cut finish again which could be problematic.

If I was you, I'd do the gloss black grilles and call it a day. The black with silver/polished look is classy AF.

Just over a month of ownership with this beast and I am absolutely enjoying it to bits. I’ve covered just over 4000km since buying it in Late January. I know the plan was to sell the RS3 and daily this, but I’ve decided to hold onto that and daily drive it while I preserve this and save it for Fridays, weekends and long distance trips. It’s a very addictive car to drive, especially when roads are quiet. Can see myself holding onto it for a few years as well as modding it eventually.

I've already ordered M Performance Gloss Black bits such as the Kidney grills, side vents and carbon mirror caps. I'm in 2 minds of blacking out the wheels as I've seen a few with blacked out wheels and it looks pretty good. Another option is to buy aftermarket rims such as a set of Vossens, Vorsteiners or even HREs.

You'll be happy to know I have a set of OEM Gloss Black kidneys on the way bud.

BTW, your M135i is stunning, brings back so many memories of my one. Identical spec bro, probably the best car I've ever owned.

It’s definitely a very underrated and special car to own and drive. I traded mine in for an A45 and FML immediately regretted it, which ended up in me trading in the 45 for the RS3 within a few months.

In terms of replacement, I’d say definitely M140i. Let alone BMW, no other brand will ever create a 6 cylinder hot hatch ever again. I feel the F20 M135i and the M140i will somewhat become future classics in time. I'm actually considering replacing my future Vrou's 125i Coupe with an M140i Shadow Line eventually.

Just a few pics of my old M135i

100% correct bud, I need to go SUV though with the outdoors and things...so X3 M40i/40d is looking like the next bet replacement. Jhb does not offer great driving roads any longer and that really stinks too.
Enjoy the M140i - it will be such a blast...and try keep it!

Just an update on this thread.

So as many of you know that I've sold my RS3 and being down to only one car for now, I've been daily driving the F85 for just about a month now.

From a daily perspective, its been a brilliant car to drive everyday so far. Can't really compare it to the RS3 since this is completely different, but for a nearly 2.4 ton suv, this thing sure as hell puts down its power beautifully. I've had a few good runs so with it and have won all, besides my run with an F90 M5 which absolutely creamed me robot to robot.

The only thing I could possibly complain about is the horrendous fuel bill on a weekly basis with this car, but then again it is a 4.4 V8TT, so obviously fuel will be heavy on it. To be more specific, I average between 16-23L/100 driving it everyday. Lowest I've seen was about 11.8 on it.

I would continue daily driving it, however considering I don't go to the safest of places everyday, I am on the hunt for a daily driver as per my last thread. I've done just below 9000km on the car since taking delivery in late January. I did think of eventually trading in for a G05 M50d but I highly doubt I will since I've only had it for 3 months and its a car I could see myself keeping for a long time. I've actually purchased a set of OEM gloss black Kidney grills for it, however I haven't had the chance to fit them on yet.

I plan on doing a trip in the next month or 2 back home to Durban to with it to look for possible new places to live in as the plan is to move either back there or to CPT after our wedding next year.

Its crazy to know that a beast like this is a couple R100k less than a Golf 8R. Absolutely love this car despite the fuel bill :ROFLMAO:.

23km/l on an X5M is bad? Unless you meant l/100km these would be astonishingly good fuel consumptions!
