I’ve been looking for a daily for the last few months as since 1 Feb, I’m back at the office 3 times a week.
I travel from Centurion to Fourways and use the ‘backroads’ mostly, which are in pretty bad condition.

Reason for me needing a daily is not due to fuel cost or tyres etc (as both of these are paid for by my company) but rather something that’s a tad more comfortable, can tackle the daily route and the often idiotic drivers, but also be used frequently during the weekends for the general running around.

Selling the Supra was not an option, as both the wife and son (and me of course) are totally opposed to this idea.

In addition to the office commute, I travel to hospitals/drs rooms and sometimes these parking or driveway entrances just didn’t suit the Supra. It’s not ‘that kind of car’

So I bought a 2014 Peugeot 2008 1.6 petrol.
Wanted a daily that had some creature comforts, but also safety and this car ticks all those boxes.
Managed to find myself a gem.
Car is immaculate, only has 33k kms, FSH and just drives so well.
So far, daily box is ticked, and Supra sleeps during the week while being relegated to the weekend warrior.

Nice one bud.. I never would've guessed one pick a Peugeot as a daily. Personally I'm kinda scared of French brand...I heard you could wait months for a part from France. Maybe this has improved.. Happy miles ahead...

The French cars dash layouts are sometimes a little weird to us...but they offer so much in terms of standard spec and value for money. I briefly owned a little Renault kangoo and had to buy some belts for it...waited 2 days so in my experience parts in that occasion was not an issue. But these days I hear of VW and Toyota owners waiting weeks on end of parts so who knows. Enjoy!

In my budget, the French option made perfect sense in terms of value for money. The part issue has always been a moot point, but the French brands have gotten better.

General maintenance parts are readily available at Goldwagen these days.
I’ve owned many Renault Sports and have never had the experience of waiting months for parts but let’s see how it goes with the Peugeot.

Thanks bud, yeah these days, it is only when you in the actual situation of needing parts, would determine the experience one has.
History of service, good or bad, sometimes, is not an indicator of what one would currently have.

Excellent choice.
Hijack/theft rating is 0 on this car.
I was looking at a newish 3008 and did some research on the brand in SA. Their aftersales support has really improved significantly in recent years. They also started stocking up on parts locally.

Thanks man, yeah the theft/hijacking issue was also part of the decision. This also helps with relatively low insurance premiums.

Hey bud

Comfort, all the nice extras, easy to drive, tackles the average and bad roads very well.

In terms of fuel consumption, I’ve done about 2000 kms since purchase, and the average consumption is 7.1l/100kms. This is mostly stop/start traffic conditions.

I did a major service after buying the car, and all parts were readily available. Called and got a booking within 2 days. Service at Williams Hunt Fourways was exceptional, I was pretty surprised at how good, professional and friendly the experience was.
I needed boot shocks and those needed to be ordered. From time of order to delivery took 3 days.

For a 1.6 NA, it can be a bit pedestrian, but not bad in traffic conditions and nippy enough for the daily drive. Highway driving at the legal limit, it’s a bit noisy, with only 5 gears, but I got used to the car, it’s dynamics, and now to get the best out of the engine and gearbox pretty quick.

Lastly, for an 8 year old car, it has no rattles, everything works (however this car only has 36k kms).

The French brands are a good alternative in terms of pricing, and it’s nice to have one touch electric windows all round, auto lights and wipers, dual zone climate control, 6 airbags, etc. in a daily.
It even has LED lighting on the roof liner (gimmicky but still cool).

Definitely a good alternative. I've just moved to Pretoria from Botswana and will definitely be looking at one of these in the next 6 months. My E90 325i consumption and SA fuel prices don't go together
