Hi All,

I am a brand new BMW owner (my 28th car) hopefully my last, and love the brand! I purchased a 2014 320d f30 last week, with 143000k on. Car is in a fantastic condition (would like to post photos but not sure how to do it yet). I have the zf 8 speed box, love it.

My first diesel, filled up at Sasol mall at reds today with 10ppm diesel. Any advise in maintaining and looking after this great car?

Ps i have taken the Warrenty Solutions extended warranty and top up, read only horror stories about them, however the dealership pressured me into it.

I stay in Centurion Gauteng, and also love enduro Riding, Crf 450r

Thank you

Hi and welcome. Great car and you're gonna have lots of fun with it. Which model is it, Sport, Modern, Luxury or M Sport? How is the service history, it's critical on these cars to have the oil changes done regularly - more so than the service indicator in the car. Another thing to get served is the gearbox - I think ZF might have a special running at the moment. Look forward to seeing some pics.

Hi Salt,

Full service history, serviced only on the 12k intervals from the motorplan ran out. I think its the Modern if i am not mistaken?

On what kms should the gearbox be done? Its a 2014, 143k. Will post some pics, as soon as i can

Thank you

Hi there. You should get it to ZF asap. If I remembered correctly it's recommended to service between 80k km and 120k km. If you're thinking of keeping the car for a while it's a great bit of preventative maintenance.

Hi,
You can fill 50ppm, if you change your oil often (people here say every 10,000km, while BMW says 20,000km).
Agree with the ZF comment above.
Also, read this because this is your first diesel car:

No difference on our cars 10ppm vs 50ppm?

My 2017 320 F30 LCI had zero difference in performance or fuel economy on 10ppm vs 50ppm.
However, my older tech 2.4 litre Volvo 5 cylinder diesel does feel stronger on 10ppm.
If you want to save the environment from air pollution, 10ppm is better.

You can never go wrong with that colour!

You’ll be pleased with fuel consumption too

Congrats! Lovely car, wishing you many safe (s)mile.

Good idea to get the gearbox oil changed, however mileage might be a bit high but worth taking it to ZF and having them check it out.
Also not a bad idea to remove the DPF.

Welcome & Congrats!

I think @Salt, @MR_Y and @PsyCLown have pretty much covered all the important parts.
- Get to ZF. Their service is amazing and they will be honest. Don't panic though - lots of cars run much higher mileage and are absolutely fine. But do get on it and have the diagnostic run to see if you can service :)
- Do the oil services - something you can do yourself.
- Removing cat may be a good idea. PLEASE reach out if you need help here. I have seen people getting quoted stupid prices for a downpipe. You shouldn't be paying more than R3k for this.
- Have mechanical sympathy for the car [any car!], and service regularly. Check small things like when last fuel filter was done etc.
- 50ppm fuel should be perfect. Some garages have specials which is nice.

Enjoy :)

Thank you very much for your advice gentleman

Starting to stress about the gearbox now, any idea how much the diagnosis is?

Turbos last on our cars, hear all sorts of horrible stories about turbo failures

Any idea where in Centurion I can service my car?

Thank you

Don't stress - absolutely no point in that. Very very good chance it's absolutely fine. I know people that have gone much higher mileage without issue.

Give ZF a Call in the morning and see when you can go through (they are based in Germiston, Meadowdale). The procedure is to first run full diagnostic to determine any faults, and pressure and timing of the box itself. Based on the outcome of that, they will go through the print out with you (to show they are not making up stories) and will determine if they can service the box, or if not. I don't believe you pay if they determine the box cannot be serviced (but I may be wrong). If they can service it, just depends on whether they are running a special for forum members or not. But you could just ask Nico! They are awesome people to deal with!

Regarding centurion workshops - I am not sure on that front. Can help with a place in Boksburg, or tons in Jhb! What do you need done soon?
