Where is the Interior colour code on a BMW?

hi,
where would one locate the interior colour code for a BMW.
is it part of the VIN number or is it a separate code on the vehicle?

Done some Googling and you can find the codes but not the location.

do they differ throughout the models; E36, E46, E90?

am i missing something?

If you unclip your back seat (the base you sit on) and lift it up, there should be a piece of paper under there. The interior codes are on there if I remember correctly.

Yes it's called a "build sheet"

You can get the build sheet from BMW if it's not under the rear seat, or there are many forums with guys on there who can get the build sheet for you.

On the build sheet is every optional extra the car came with, colors etc.

So I just take my VIN nr to them and ask for the build sheet? Do they charge for this?

Yes I got mine earlier the week form the dealer, it shows the colour codes plus all options fitted
