Hey everyone,

So I thought I'd share my experience with the 330d over the last 6 months.

Bought in October last year with around 143 000km and did some minor maintenance on her incl a oil change. The car has run beautifully without any major issues. I read up on this forum about tuning and DP etc for a while and then decided to go for some upgrades.

4 weeks ago I contacted Brian at Primaforce, booked the car in and had the DP done. Brian and his team are totally professional and I was extremely impressed with their service and workmanship. Thanks to the forum members who recommended Primaforce.

3 days later I called Ricardo at RK motion. Another great experience with him. Came out, loaded the custom file and went for test drive. This is where it gets awesome.

This car has totally transformed. It was already an impressive work of art when it was standard but now it's something else. The response on this car is literally unbelievable and to think that it's only a mild tune. I asked for this custom tune knowing fully well that I'd be using it on the school run 3-4 times a week and I did't want the full stage 1 tune. Hence by Ricardo's estimates it's roughly 210kw and 600+ nm.

Consumption hasn't changed but this was expected. It gets the full throttle every now and then so 9.5l/100 currently. I have however reset the counter and did a short 70km run and got 5.1l/100km.

Nevertheless, I am totally satisfied with the upgrades and love this car to bits. I must say, I was never a diesel fan. Been a petrol head all my life and owning 2x 6 cyl BMW's previously. But now I'm a changed man lol, I am converted!!!

Next is the XHP software which I'm sure, judging by the reviews, will further widen my permanent grin.

Enjoy your sweet ride and congrats once more...you need to prepare for long distance travel to fully enjoy your combo you have there

hey congratulations. she is sweet ride.
Question on this custom tune, what is custom about it, other than the VIN being adjusted to suit your car?
a custom tune typically starts with a base file, then adjusted after logging and logging and logging to get the car right to the optimum levels.
there are some good tuners out here, and some impressive numbers, but i dont consider a file that's loaded, then dyno'd a custom tune at all.

So keen to hear some feedback on this.

I also want to know the definition of a custom tune with these South African places cause from what I have seen it's. send file, wait a few minutes for a file to arrive in the guys email and then bam load the file and "here is your custom tune sir, give money please".

Now when I had a "Custom" tune done it was months of tuning, logging the car sending logs, getting revisions with slight tweaks, log some more, change offending hardware, send logs, get revisions. It was an ongoing thing that really took allot of time. In SA a custom tune seems to be similar to an OTS map.

My interpretation of CUSTOM:

I didn't want the full stage 1 tune done on the car. As far as I know, RK motion is capable of tuning a 330d on a Stage 1 tune to at least 225wkw. I chose not to go with this power output given the circumstances and intended use of the car

Hence, I asked for a "CUSTOM" tune, a sort of mild stage 1 tune (192wkw, dyno at AUTOTRIX).

Apologies if I used the word CUSTOM incorrectly
