There is alot to like but the 4 pot only option puts out of the running for me. Cars more and more these days are not been designed and engineered for enthusiasts by enthusiasts. I have not driven alot of the newer range from any manufacturer because frankly its out of my price range, but i imagine it would have at least a sonorous 6 under the hood.

Thanks for the insights [mention]MR_Y [/mention] . This is actually an excellent proposition. My bro does a Volvo s60 D5 since 2014 and it still runs fantastic on 150k km (those were 2.4 5 cylinder turbo diesel I think). Think I should swing by the dealership and check it out

I had the 2.4 5 cylinder D5 in my V60CC. A bullet proof motor that had excellent mid range punch (20d BMW cars couldn't touch me
).The new D5 4 cylinder 2.0 is good but has a lazy gearbox. But, the Polestar Optimisation (which the advertised car has) adds a few more Kws and Nms and tunes the gearbox to act faster. Also, since 2016, all Polestar Optimisations tune the AWD system to be more rear biased. I haven't driven an XC90 with that tune, but sounds like it should transform the driving experience.

I own an 2022 XC60 momentum in the same B6 spec.
One of the main reasons for buying this for the wife was for school runs and holidays, these cars are safe and solid, built like brick shit houses - VOLVO vs ROLLS
I've seen an XC60 that ran into a polo and the VW was unrecognizable.
In terms of fuel economy, dont believe the sales talk, they're not light on fuel. My wife averages anywhere between 10 and 13l/100km with the daily school runs and her appointments.
My opinion, they're incredibly comfortable and safe. Not near as fun or engaging to drive as something like an X5.
In terms of resale, its laughable, probably worse than BMW. I purchased mine new for +-1.1million in 2022 and end of last year 2023 (1.5 years later) Volvo offered R750k on a trade in. (30k km's in new condition not a single scratch)
Extending the motor plan is currently more than my F90 competition. +-60k for an additional 2 years whereas the M5 was around 50k for 2 more years.
I would definitely recommend the Volvo depending on what you're looking for and what your needs are.
The X5 will have the fun factor, that the Volvo lacks in spades

I agree on resale point, unless you are buying it towards end of its Plan and then they are a bargain and keep good resale value thereafter (depending on the model/engine). Diesels tend to hold value better than petrols.

I spoke to the salesman a while ago and it didn't sound great. I was told the optimization applies to the gear changes and isn't a power increase.
It isnt terrible for 220kw but yeah some more power would be nice as it can be sluggish on take off

These are not bad at all. Had one loaned to me.
The build quality surpasses the Merc I had as a loan car by far (not best comparison as the Merc was entry level).
General tech and features seems decent. Wireless charging is seamless. Liked the allview camera, somehow has a tyre inflation tech
. The sound system is top-notch. The seats are similar to Comfort seats, very comfy, with lots of seat adjustments. The indicator sound and weight is good, the foot pedals also similar to BMW, not that Land rover small accelerator pedals similar to a Golf 1. It also has a gear lever, not that Mercedes Indicator stalk gear-lever adopted from a Toyota HiAce from 1970.
The steering is super light, the ride quality is good but nothing to write home about (ito handling, dynamics). A typical BMW driver would be bored out of their skull with this car, for a SO, wife, I think its a nice daily.

Yeah I also spotted that lurking in the garage, someone deserving had to get that car, although I loved it and looked at that thread for ever, having no garages was never an option.
