strange misfire

Hi guys, looking for a little assistance here with a really weird issue. E39 523i. So on odd occasions whilst stationary at a robot or stop street the car will start missing, like a faulty spark plug or some sort. It definitely is a miss as you can feel it when you drive. However, and this is the puzzling part, if you switch the car off and restart it the miss is gone and you can drive like normal. Its almost like something resets ?? This does not occur if you are on the open road and as it happens on odd occasions I do not know if the problem is on the same cylinder or not as it is not opportune to try and check it. Any ideas ? Could it be a coil pack ?

What does INPA/diagnostics say? Start there. Could be a bad spark plug or coil, or it could be something like a cam/crank sensor. Check what your adaptations are, if you have abnormally high adaptations, it could be a vacuum leak

I would start by removing and cleaning the Vanos Solanoid, so this can be ruled out.

Thanks guys, have not done a diagnostics test yet so perhaps that may be the first option but I will explore all suggestions
