Sapphire Black F30 detailed

I planned to tackle my Sapphire Black metallic F30 320d (17 months old) this weekend and I am pleased with the outcome, it's not a professional job as I am not a professional car detailer, nonetheless I gave it a try.. Pravin your products rock!

Some of the stuff at my disposal:

New Foam lance:

My approach was as follows:

1) Foam with Karcher Foam lance, using 40% Karcher Ultra foam cleaner, 40% Sonax Gloss Shampoo and 20% boiling water.
2) Took a clean bucket of water and a wash mit to tackle the more stubborn stuff on the sideskirts, etc.
3) Rinsed off with Karcher high pressure washer (cold)
4) Drip dry until almost dry then took my CrazyDetailer ultra soft buffing cloth and dried the car off.
5) Used an AutoGlym applicator for the Menzerna SF4000 to tackle a small piece of the paintwork at a time and buffing with my new most loved cloth
6) Cleaned leather with just hot water and a microfiber cloth
7) Cleaned stubborn plastics with 50% vinegar and 50% boiling water mix - works like a charm I tell you!
8) Vacuumed carpets with Karcher dry vac and cleaned carpets using my new SmartCarpet cleaner + carpet brush
9) Used a microfiber cloth to give the leather some love with Meguiar's Gold Class Rich Leather
10) Used a microfiber cloth for the Meguiar's Endurance Tyre gel
11) Used luke warm water with a damp microfiber cloth to clean engine bay of visible dirt

My approach is to have a cloth for each type of application, never re-use on another cleaning job and then throw them all in the washing machine to get them clean again.

The car was not clayed yet as I need way more time to do that, we shall see soon!

Some results and I finally got that glass look I wanted! :joy:

(My phone made some artifacts on the bonnet pics, not all of those are stone chips :fencelook:)

Tried to get some of the flakes by focusing camera on my keys..

Lastly something I though my fellow fanatics would appreciate:

Thanks for reading and I value any feedback.

Is your car really 17 months old? This would mean that you got it in Feb 2012. It was only launched in end of March 2012?:fencelook:

How's the Karcher Lance? Considering getting myself one.
Do you mind me asking how much it cost? (PM is fine)

Very good results

Is it just my lack of knowledge on the products in the pics or do you seem to be missing a sealant/wax product in that set?

For my needs I am happy with it, it makes thick foam if you stick with the 80% solution and 20% water then it sticks for a while. 50/50 makes it too runny. The lance itself is easy to work with but the bottle is smaller than the professional ones and it has a min/max setting too. I am more than happy with it. I bought the kit @ Makro for R280 which included the karcher foam solution as well. The professional ones go for R650 if I am not mistaken but you need to huy them oine.

Thanks, I struggled for ages to get this gloss look and am glad I could get it with the combination I used.

I was not 100% happy with the result as I still had a swirl or 2 on the bootlid and bonnet hence I did not seal the finish. I have sonax liquid wax which I will put on after I give this a go again!

I have never applied this before so need to firstly find out how as well.
I also saw on a youtube video that people also use quick detailer to finish the paint off instead of a wax?

Quick detailer is for quick applications hehe
For black, carnauba wax is best but doesn't last as long as sealant.
You could seal it first & apply carnauba wax over then keep topping up the carnauba wax layer as the sealant lasts quite long.

Seems I'm off to Makro now

:ty: for the feedback guys! She has never looked like this not even on the day I got her, I love the mirror effect :inlove: lots of work but totally worth it. I am going to try and get my hands on that Carnauba wax - have heard good things about it too!

It's the best thing for Black cars, ask Pravin for more info.

I got the Karcher Foam Lance today
Would've gotten one a while ago but I thought they were all R700+
Will try it out tomo with your ratio

So did you only polish by hand to get the glass effect?

Glad that you got one too, check Makro run out of stock soon and they wonder why..

I do not have an orbital polisher and I see the cheapest ones are about R1k..

Pravin recommended the Autoglym - Hi-Tech Polish Applicator for the polish and I used his Plush Polishing Microfiber Towel Combo (2pcs) - the soft white cloth to buff.. Took it a small section at a time and when I started to see the difference I just kept going. :joy:

Glad you were happy with the results.
I got a DA from Pravin as my paint needed some TLC.

Just used the Foam Lance & it's awesome.
I think your ratio is a bit strong though, might strip the wax.
I used a diluted version & it was still quite thick
Thanks for the thread, was waiting for someone to give their opinion on the Karcher foam Lance, I couldn't be happier.
