Preferred Filter Brands

What filter brands do you prefer on your service filters once away from the dealers long arm?

Do you only look for Genuine branded or do the filter OEMs offer enough for you to trust them with your pride and joys health?

For the uninitiated the common filter OEMs would be Mann, Bosch, Mahle or GUD with a few other jumping in when BMW was in good mood with contracts.

Genuine or BMC for me

I had BMC in my F10 - it offered no real advantage but given OEM prices (even after discount) it made sense to go this route.
Alfa 4C has a BMC filter as an OEM available option (It came on the launch editions) and was fitted by Alfa still under plan.

The issues arise when you over-oil the filter when cleaning or oiling it and immediately refitting it. I've never had issues using these on other cars in the past.

I am hoping for a lotto win so I can fit Eventuri intakes onto my F90 one day LOL... if not I won't hesitate to go the BMC route again when out of plan.

On the oiling Llew, a tech once advised me to just clean the filter and not oil it at all as the oil damages some sensors. However I'm a bit sceptical on that as the oil clearly traps alot of dirt.

I had missed this til the thread was bumped. A filter designed to be used with oil has a significantly larger pore size. If you don't like the oiling process, rather go with one of the dry filter options (there are a few - even from the same manufacturers sometimes for this preference).

The correct process is to clean and dry thoroughly, re-oil, blot the excess oil and then still leave it overnight... almost nobody does this (and a workshop might not have the time to realistically do this for an ordinary service).
