Thought I'd give an update after 2 weeks of ownership.

I kept getting "Battery discharged, start vehicle immediately" and "Battery discharging whilst off" messages. Luckily it never got low enough that it couldn't start, but that was a pain. The dealer replaced the battery with a brand new one on the weekend so that's sorted.

Other issue is the left tail light. I keep getting rear fog light failure warnings (though in reality the fog lights work just fine). The driving light is out and there is water in cluster. Coincidence? I think not.

Dealer agreed to replace it, so I went there on the weekend but the donor vehicle (M235i) also has water in the light, so he is ordering a new unit which I will fit on the weekend. We opened it up to remove the water and found it fairly tarnished inside, water has evidently been there for a while and some of the contacts show signs of shorting, so it's toast. Indicators, fogs and brakes work so at least it isn't completely dead.

I also found the driver's side bolster doesn't work, though the passenger side does. I assumed (and hoped for) a faulty pump so I opened the seats up and swapped the passenger pump to the driver's side, but that still doesn't work. Driver's side pump does work on the passenger side, so it isn't a pump issue. I assume it's a power issue as the pump doesn't react at all when the switch is pressed. My guess is it'll likely be a wiring issue between the main connector, the bolster switch and the pump. I don't have a multimeter so that's something I need to resolve.

And lastly, the dreaded windscreen washers not spraying any water. I can hear the pump trying, but no water comes out and there is an accompanying beeping noise, so something weird is going on but I'm not sure what. Hopefully it's just a blocked line, I'll have to take a look and see what I can find, just ran out of time on the weekend.

Other than that she runs like a dream and everything else works as expected.

Update:

Dealer hasn't managed to find a replacement rear light so that is still not resolved.

They did replace the battery so that's something.

On the windscreen washers... well. Now that's another story.

Took it to a mechanic as I don't have a jack stand. Got the wheel and fender liners off and had a lookie.

Some very special, well loved, salt-of-the-earth mechanic had a look it it at some point in the past and thought to themselves, "You know, I know what'll fix this. Licorice bubblegum. So they've licorice-bubblegummed the join from the T-piece (main feed) to the light-washer. Somehow - force majeur I'm sure - that didn't work and so all of the water pisses out like me after a bender. Or curry. Your choice.

Either way, seems the pump and the lines will need to be replaced, so I will be selling a kidney. If anyone has a kidney they'd like to donate, I'm open to negotiations, otherwise I shall be stealing one this weekend and you'll see the sales post on Monday I guess.

So yes, not the strongest start to the BMW ownership experience, though perhaps the most accurate? Time will tell.

Update!

The dealer finally managed to source a replacement tail light, so that is in and working and I am all the happier for it. No more concern over being pulled over at night for a faulty driving light.

I still need to sort the windscreen washers. BMW quoted ~R7,500 to do the job. I could do it myself for ~R4,500, but I don't have a jack or stand so that needs resolving.

Besides the niggles though, I've been thoroughly enjoying driving her about. The N20 seems thirsty as a camel in the summertime and I've yet to determine if that is purely because of my foot, or perhaps a tuning/wear issue.

Bit the bullet and got a CarPlay device with the larger 10.2" screen.

No, my car is not dirty, that's your imagination. Don't do drugs kids.

For those at the meet who saw me with the bonnet open, though I'd provide a quick update.

The compressor hose (I believe that's what it is, it's an A/C line) is sheered in two. No idea how that happened as it's a steel core.

Anyway, that sheered and was flopping around and caught the edge of the serpentine belt. That then proceeded to begin falling apart and the ticking noise was a strip of it slapping against something in the engine as it rotated. Managed to get home and then get a replacement from Midas and fit it before it destroyed itself. I've cable tied the two loose ends of the hose to nearby items so I don't have a repeat.

The serpentine belt only runs the A/C and alternator so it wouldn't have been catastrophic, but glad I averted that danger anyway.

BMW quoted ~R3,500 for a replacement hose, plus diagnostics and obviously a regas. I'll probably just get the part and fit it myself, then figure out the rest.

What it does mean is no A/C right now, which is not great.

Welcome. Funny enough I just bought myself a 2015 F22 220d and I also have the washer fluid spray not spraying, So I need to figure that out myself.

With regards to the issues you're having, this is pretty hectic, it begs the question of who owned the vehicle before you and what happened in their ownership as those are some rather strange issues.

Yea man, some weird ones for sure.

I've watched quite a few videos about the washer issue and there are some simple fixes to try that may work for you. My issue is mechanical and requires parts but you may be luckier than me.

Car looks great BTW, love those wheels.

Aww man, you have the N20 engine as well?
I would have thought a 2016 model would be using the B48.

I hope for your sake there are no further issues and you can get the current ones resolved quickly and at a reasonable cost.

Apart from the issues, how are you finding the car and any plans for mods in the future? The 2L petrols make decent power with a tune, both N20 and B48.

Yea, bit of a mistake on my part but here we are. Mine was Dec 2015 so just missed the switch :(

I'm loving the car. Has a couple things which need resolving but she's a beauty, rides like a dream and she's quick enough for what she is. I'll likely do a tune, exhaust etc. when the warranty is over but for now just enjoying it.
