From what I've heard they are pretty strong motors, will last you long time. It's pretty heavy on fuel though. Think it uses about the same as the 540 M60.

What you planning??

Powerfull, not that fast from pull away with a automatic box, pretty durable, if kept in a good condition it will last you along time, but consumption is heavy. I got only 5.5km\L on my 535i in any type of driving, driving miss daisy, normal driving and drove it like it was stolen.

I would love to know what you are planing.:=):

im sure there is alot more power to be got from M30B35 with decent compression...

Alpina B10 was tested in Car magazine years ago - the M30B35 had 187 kw or thereabouts .Will check later at home on performance figures of e34 .

Very strong, and torquey and seriously reliable but they eat frikkin fuel and it's not a very smooth six at all.

Still I like them

Yah I think I remember that mag, it was a red one. If memory serves;

0-100 @ 7.74sec
1km sprint 27.8 @ 194kph

Potential in an M30 should be high seeing as it's only producing 44.2Kw/L, and I think Moranor likes boost

I really want an e34, but the problem is this one eats fuel and is quite a bit slower than my current car :(

What I find strange is the S38B36 0-100 - 6.3Sec, uses less fuel than the M30B35, has more output per liter than a Ferrari testarosa S38 -> 64.4Kw per liter Ferrari -> 58.9Kw per liter yet it's loosely based on the same M30 engine.

So the answer is if you want an E34.... get an M5

This kind of says it ( And no I personally dont drive like this that's why there's youtube)

And the 3.8 just eats a 540i/6 for breakfast

And here's some silly Americans

In fact once they get the legs on the highway the 3.6 and 3.8 basically run away.

Ok lol there's my toung in cheek brag for the day, that's stock but it's so easy to bump a 540 power up to way above this

im thinking a 540 with a short ratio  parts on the M5 scare me... i wish it was easier to find 6 speed boxes for the 540 :(

True the parts are scary, but Ebay often comes through.
