We had a fairly decent convoy in November, but yesterday's convoy was really epic. Yes there was some harsh braking here and there, but cmon, 60 to 70 cars easy is tough to maintain if you diverting from one highway to the next. Well done to all and big ups to zambesi auto for pulling out all the stops. What a fantastic bunch of guys from that dealership.

Yea the gaps were a little large, Myself and Thunder had to duck into the left lane because the convoy came to a complete stop.

I was infront of thunder when you guys luckily had a gap to go past. Could have ended up nasty. I was praying that the breaks on the Witch would be enough. :tiptoe:

Must say from my side scared the SH!T out of me when you guys suddenly braked.

Just glad there was a gap next to me for me and Nick to evade.

But I must say with the amount of cars we had a good convoy taking everything in consideration. But perhaps next time get some sweeper cars for the highway convert parts and robots so things can move a bit more smoothly.

It will only happen to you once, I nearly drove into the of Garth's 330d(the promtech one) at the charity run in 2013. Since then I keep a good distance when in convoy cause the bunching up will always happen.

Also remember guys that the effect of a small touch on the brakes of the lead car can mean a dead stop for the last car the "brake effect" is multiplied especially over such a long line of cars. So no matter how smooth the first car drives you will always have be on your toes if you are in the back of a convoy.

Eitherway, it was awesome!

My first BMW event! What a relaxed bunch of guys you all are. Its great putting a few faces to names and experiencing that fanatics vibe in the flesh. :blowheart:

Thanks for all the organizers, evrything happened as planned and on time! I usually would not join events such as this, im a quiet type guy. I must say, i thoroughly enjoyed this event! No funny business and a very, very welcoming vibe! Thanks again to everyone who was there!

The reactions of the other ous on the highway, priceless!! Seeing 70 odd BMWs cruisin in a line... Im still smiling!:rollsmile:

Put my fanantics stickers on as soon as I got home. It's awesome to be a part of this community!

Hey Herco, That was me in front you you!
Blue M135i
Sorry about that...guy in front of me braked out of nowhere and I had to hit brakes hard too. Kept my eye behind me but I could see you would make it...couldn't see behind you though.

Thus my suggestion up here somewhere that convoy's should be done only in the slow lane driving 20km/h slower than the speed limit of the particular road you are on.
The stop go killed me

Hey man!

No reason to be sorry, it is no ones fault. I read up a bit on convoys ect, and everyone has the same problem. Everyone has to be extremely disciplined to execute a convoy without having that brake effect.

The stop and go did get annoying at a stage, but was over soon enough. In the end, still 100% worth it!

At first I was upset that you got in between me and the M3, cause you know... M3... But then that blue of your car dude, soooooo sexy!!! I have some more video of you car that I will post for you. :tiptoe:

Ha ha well the reason I got between you and the M3 is because M3 too!
Ha ha I actually had my go pro on and wanted a nice vid of most cars in the convoy so went to the slow lane and slowed down to get you all on my right.
So there is one of you too if you want bud, short and lots of wind noise but ill edit and post up for you.

Thanks!

It scared the living daylights out of me, I was travelling with Thunder in his car.

This might sound like a silly suggestion for us, but I think if we have the next convoy, the speed should be around 80-90, because we are showing our cars in a group, not trying to show how fast they are - everyone knows that BMW's are fast, we do not have to show that all the time, and if we crash into each other in the convoy because of show boating, we are going to be the laughing stock of the rest of South Africa, instead of having the respect we prefer

Gents, I've uploaded a bunch of photos I took with my GoPro which can be seen here. There's video too but it's boring as hell. Mostly just the back of an M4...

(still uploading right now, check in the morning ;) )

Oh, and sign up for Copy because it's better than Dropbox and you get 20GB space using this link
