We have a customer who came to us with a few photographs of what he wanted done and said "build this". The humble gentleman brought nothing (not even a car) other than his idea and so we needed to start from a solid block of air.
We managed to source a green E30 320i automatic and the idea in mind was to create a custom built E30 race car tribute. Naturally this meant no autobox and no 2.0 motor
Instead, a full restoration coupled with a proper manual funbox, and to power the beast we will be fitting a M52B28 E36 328i engine. And no more green, either... Instead this baby will be fully resprayed in Alpine White.
So without babbling on too much, lets get to the progress of the build of an E30 Race Car Tribute.
The vehicle was stripped completely in order to deal with a few rust issues. There was rust on the a-pillar, windscreen valence, rear windows surround, tail lights recess and mild rust in the floor-pan.
The sunroof was also badly rusted and so we had to source and install a new roof skin without a sunroof. Race cars don't need a sunroof anyway
As said before, we sourced an E36 328i M52B28 engine for the project which has had its sump swapped and baffled, new oil pickup and engine mounts mocked up. The gearbox will too be from an E36 328i.
A test fit was done.
We also needed a better dash to restore, which we repaired and recovered.
