With the sandstorm behind us, and hopefully never to return again, I took some time this weekend to treat myself to some waxes :fencelook:
First on the menu was a tub of Blackfire Midnight Sun Carnauba Wax to compliment my current Blackfire goodies, for the look that Blackfire calls 'Ice Over Fire'. I did give it a quick outing on Saturday, on Ashlin's E46 M3 - the finish was amazing, which left the paint looking wet! :inlove: but I will take this wax out for another walk soon, so stay tuned :thumbs:
Now onto the 328i, this belongs to another friend, Mdu also known as Naruto on the forum. His car came in for a single day gloss enhancement:
This car was in great nick paint-wise. Hardly any scratching and minor swirling, indicating how well looked after this F30 is. After the standard decontaminant wash, the car's paint surface looked like this:
The car was clayed, then treated to a light polish using Scholl S17+ to enhance the gloss and remove most of the surface swirling and light marring. The polish did a world of good to remove the surface defects, as well as expose that light gold flake which the estoril blue cars had, it looked stunning :inlove:
Directly after the polish, the car was wiped down using Gyeon Prep, basically an IPA wipe-down solution, but allows the cloths to glide effortlessly across the paint surface while it dissolves any residues left behind by the polish. After this, the fun started...
So this is the finished product :inlove:
Directly after the Prep wipe down, I decided to go the wax route, simply since I had something new and had to give it a bash, and boy was I knocked out my socks!
I've always been a fan of paint sealants and dabbled very little with waxes. I found them to be too messy, and always liked the sharper finishes offered by synthetics. But I could not deny the gloss and 'wet' factor that wax offered. So after some research and reading up, I figured I'd only need three waxes in my inventory: Blackfire Midnight Sun, Collinite #915 and Auto Finesse Illusion (waiting for stock)
In my research, I'd never seen a wax polarise people the way #915 did - people swore it was the toughest wax to apply and remove, while others swore it was easier to get gone than butter. None of them could deny the finish it left behind though, so I was naturally curious to experience it for myself.
This wax drops all fancy packaging and comes in a simple tin, doesn't look spectacular, or smell like crushed fruit on ice. Instead everything about it lends to it being purpose-built - it's just there to get the job done, love it or hate it. At R450 from Crazy Detailer, it's rather unsuspecting too.
I applied this wax by hand, transferring very little onto my foam applicator pad and proceeded to working it in straight lines on the bodywork, applying a thin layer. It was very easy on and spread ridiculously well. I let the product cure for between 15 to 20 minutes, before wiping off, and it was just as effortless. Keep in mind when using this wax that if not allowed to cure properly, it will be a tad 'grabby' to remove.
This wax is literally like glass in a can! The finish after having buffing it off was amazing! :inlove: while not leaving the paint looking outright wet, it left behind incredible shine and a very deep gloss. I was very impressed by it :bravo:
