E93 Coding for roof closing

Hi All, I have a 2009 E93. The key fob will open the roof, but not close it. I believe the coding can be changed to allow this to happen. Can anyone assist with this, in Cape Town or nearby? Thanks

I would suggest you send yusufm786 a pm. He just coded my e70 to do all sorts of cool things.

If the roof opens with the remote, then it should close as well since closing and opening aren't done seperately. Try locking car and then holding the close button.

If this doesn't work, contact Gert and he will assist if you are near Benoni.

Yeah, it is odd. It seems you need the Comfort Access package for the roof to close with the remote by default. What it will do is open fully (unless you open a door), and allow access to the boot (by pressing the boot lock once quickly and then holding, lifting out the roof 1/2 way), but the close functionality does not work.

Unfortunately I am in Cape Town, I should have mentioned that...

I haven't owned an E93, but I know that the F33 requires Comfort Access to be able to open and close the top. Even then, you need to be almost right next to the car for it to work.

I briefly considered the SmartTop (http://www.cabrioconnect.co.za/BMW 3 series E93.html) module for the F33, but decided against it in the end. It adds a couple of features, besides being able to remotely open and close the roof, such as one touch operation, extended remote operation range and it increases the top speed at which the roof can be operated.
I mainly decided against it due to warranty/MP concerns.

I was looking at the SmartTop module until I discovered you can have the car's software reprogrammed to enable some of these features. You can probably have the same done for your F33. I would do it myself, but would rather pay a smaller fee for someone else to do it than for me to buy the equipment to do it for a much higher fee. Frank

From the research I did, it seems it isn't possible on the F chassis cars. Note this does not apply to E chassis cars (E93), where it does seem to be a coding option.

From a service bulletin I saw, the closing function has also been removed from F23/F33/F83 cars built from July 2014 onward or cars that have had coding done by the dealership thereafter.

I do not know anyone in capetown that can do this for you sadly.

I would suggest buy carly, and buy an inpa cable and do it yourself, carly should easily code the comfort access in. I coded this exact function for the e46 convertible, e63 and e65.

But trust me it's more of a nice to have, you will probably rarely use the function once the novelty wears off.
