E90 ANNOYING SQUEAKY NOISE

hi guys,

for the past month i have been getting this noise coming from somewhere at the rear. this noise is clearly heard when:
1. reversing the car (very loud squeak)
2. the car is in gear but rolling (without accelerator pressed)

when accelerating the noise seems to quieten down quite a bit and when the car is in neutral but rolling then there is no noise.

i have changed all wheel bearings and trailing arm bushes (all other bushes are ok)

i am thinking of whether it could be the prop shaft couplings or similar.

any advice or experiences from other E90 owners or mechanics on what this could be?

Brake squeal (not applying the brake) from the handbrake maybe? My 330i did this lightly when I bought the car, but not after the pads, rear disks and handbrake shoes were replaced. But the squeal at low speeds going forward is back - annoying! :argh:

1st remove all rodents... then look for small birds... if noise is still there :argh:

to eliminate handbrake shoes try fiddling with the hand break when you get the noise while keeping the speed constant... if it makes no difference to the noise you know its not that... dont pull too hard :)

i tried that also, no difference. if it was that then it will always make the noise. in the present situation when the gear is engaged the noise quietens down.

My e90 had a horrible clunking noise when I just set off in reverse.. Not sure what that was though - traded it in..

That sounds like the brake pads shifting in the calliper - annoying but not really an issues, and again, this is why copper grease helps!

Mine was doing this after the agents replaced pads etc, pulled my brakes apart only to discover that no copper grease or other anti-squeal paste was used at all, not even properly cleaned for that matter. So cleaned and applied a small amount of copper grease - never heard this knocking sound again, especially when braking after moving backwards etc.

But, this was a brake issue, so if not this then not really sure - diff or mounts would be next to check...

My money is on the brakes

if it is the brakes then the noise should be there as long as the wheel is turning but this is not the case with my E90. like when accelerating

Exact same thing on my car!! Guess i need some copper grease then aswell!! Jig these cars are high maintenance for all the fun they give!

I have the same problem on my 335i, mines was the rear right brake disc cover, i bent it away from the wheel and it seems fine, hafta do this every few times though, im guessing after i hit a bump for sum reason it bends again, had bmw check it out and they sed nothings wrong:dunno:
