Mine used to be 14.4 with light driving and my motor was beautiful, if i played it was around 16L/100 and if i ran her hard is was 22L/100. and yes i owned one.

At R7.50/L I can survive but R9.50+ is just unpleasant all the way!

This is South Africa most of us have to drive it's not like the UK with all those extra busses around

So what we are saying is that a 540 is more economical then say... a 328 ?

No a 540 with a driver who has a broken right foot is more economical than a 328.

When the right foot is planted a 540 or M5 will rape any BMW in the fuel stakes

So best of both worlds maybe?

Fair enough, raping in the fuel stakes is mandatory, however it can do that WHILE towing any other BMW, it pays to play....

So speaking of which, im about to go climb into one of mine and become more poor, and you know what.. I dont care...

On the local cycle you should expect something in the region of 13-14l/100km, that what I used to get om my vert.

So are the verts are heavier on juice than the sedans ? I had a friend who owned a sedan E36 328i and use to get 10l/100km mixed driving

They might be due to them being heavier than the sedans and also the canvas roof could add to the drag of the car. The majority of verts are a/t as well...

Meh, I like the sound of money exploding to much to be bothered by the fuel price :) (If I wanted something economical I wouldn't have bought a 3.0l now would I :))

14.7... but that's city driving with a heavy foot.

how accurate is the fuel consumption display reading on the control panel?

+1! Although I find my E90 330i to be quite reasonable for what it is, and my Wife's E46 320i is actually rather good as far as I am concerned.

If I am not mistaken the e90 330i is actually also a lot better on the "not to bad for a 3.0l scale" consumption scale, but I must say the 12l/100km I get for just urban driving is not bad at all for a pretty big engine.

It is pretty good, especially on open road and if you are gentle with the throttle. Short and frequent runs kill the average consumption of course. The econometer can appear to be like a boost gauge going from zero to max just about all the time, but with some sensible driving in reality it's quite good. At the moment it is sitting on 10.5 l/100 km which is a combination of town and some freeway driving. My Wife behind the wheel and that figure tends to climb though! We filled up her 320i the other day and she went for a few drives with it - consumption was showing 11.4 l/100 km. I took it to have the lower control arm bushes done today and for the inspection yesterday which is mostly freeway driving and the consumption is now on 10.3 l/100 km, and I am not right foot compromised! :)

I agree that public transport is better in the UK-tubes/busses trains etc...But if you want the pleasure of the ultimate driving machine then I last paid 1.44quid per litre which is R15.96 :cursin:

with all this said... my car is sounding not to bad... i get around 13.5l to 100killometres on the open ighway its down to about 11l to 100k.... but as soon as i let it rip 22l/100k is wat the onboard comp reads....

well its up for sale now i just cant afford to be rollling in style any longer.. and no boot space.... i guess it served its purpose...
