Taking my car in today to get this done
anyone else
had it done already? what should I look out for after the work is carried out? I'm pedantic when it comes to replacing every screw and cover after removing the trims.

BMW recalls various model series: Danger in case of airbag deployment

BMW is recalling 358,071 vehicles worldwide with model series 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, M2, M3, M4, X1, X3, X4, X5, X5M, X6 and X6M manufactured from 2012 to 2014. The reason for the measure is a fault in the gas generator of the passenger airbag; this can lead to uncontrolled deployment when the airbag is deployed and to the release of metal fragments that could injure the occupants. In Germany, 78,302 vehicles are affected.
The airbag module on the passenger side will be replaced in the workshop by a component with a different propellant. The KBA is monitoring the recall under the reference numbers “012378”, and the internal code is “0032390300”.

Mine was done last month when she went in for her annual service.
Did do a quick inspection but didn't notice any panel/cover or screw issues...

I had the recall done and was also convinced it was the passenger air bag but when I got the car back I had a new driver airbag.

If they did swap the passenger one out then I can’t see it.

Does bmw charge for this out of plan?...to remove an entire dash it's not an easy job lol that's a good few hours of labor ...

No, did not get charged. BMW covered all costs as the fault was on their end.

When an issue from a specific defective component can result in death, I suppose they get it done, too bad they don't also repair the infamous N20 timing chain issue, not realizing it also can lead to a broken heart 🤦🏽‍♂️

They might replace it. Worth a chance.

I’m curious if RSA is changing the correct airbags. I won’t put it past South Africa to be reading this as „passenger airbag“ oh that’s the left side Airbag in Europe so must be the „Drivers Airbag“ in South Africa. :)
