hey guys,
due to the high request for E90 projector retrofitting, i have done one myself.

THIS IS THE FIRST EVER AND IT IS POSTED RIGHT HERE ON BMWFANATICS.CO.ZA

i found a PRE-LCI E90 halogen headlight in the scrapyard and did some experimenting on it.

using a heatgun and a set of screwdrivers i removed the lens as carefully as i could with very little damage.

i then measured up to see what shroud will fit inside there with a projector. some pics of the headlight without the lens

i then installed the Morimoto H1 Mini projector. it comes with a H7 adapter and bolt-on mechanism which is perfect because this headlight bulb is for H7.

i then found a compatible shroud which is the same as the E46 one and checked how to modify it. i had to grind it a bit for it to clear the bowl for the bright bulb. see pic below

i then installed the shroud and took more pics of the headlight with the projector and shroud but without the lens:

i then placed the lens back on to see if the clearances were OK and took more pics:

overall it looks good. all that is left to do is clear off the dry glue from the edges, heat and push back the plastic over the lens, and use SIKAFLEX silicon to re-seal the headlight.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OF IT?

Well done :thumbs:

How much is a set of those projectors and shrouds. Want to do the same for mine soon.

That looks very interesting. Sorry for my newbie question, but what does that installation actually provide? In comparison to the stock headlight setup?
Cheers.:=):

Hey vsomai, great work.

I have an E70 X5 with bi-xenons, on these models the inner headlights are just dummies. Is it possible to retrofit one of these projectors in that position to give me an extra set of brights?

Well done:praise::praise:

What would the costs be for this to be done, would really like to do it on my car...

Great work again.... :bravo:

nice job!!!!

dont use sikaflex silicon, rather use bitumen tape, much easier to work with, and to disassemble if needed.

hi,
most people do not want to spend R25000 for a set of OEM xenon headlights. it is a much much cheaper option

sure you can. you can also have quad-xenons.

Oh hectic!!! Since I don't have Xeons now, that means there is a possibility of getting 'xeon effect' headlights for around R700? Would this in anyway void my motor plan? And last question, I am never going to attempt to put these on myself, can you provide a rough estimate for the entire piece of work plus parts?

Thank you!

Tell me more? Which parts do I have to buy for the quad-xenons, and would the installation be DYI?

if i were to do it on your car it would cost you R1100 for everything including removal and re-installation of your lights from your car.

R1100 for parts and labour. your motorplan will be void if you attempt this. they will find any reason to take it away.

just the parts would cost you R700 but you need to know how to remove the lens carefully. on the headlight there is a place to start, finish and pull. if you dont get it right you WILL crack the lens. i learnt while practicing on a number of headlights. not sure if it is DIY just like that. but i mean it is your headlight and you can try.

For R700 you get 2 bi-xenon projectors and 2 shrouds.

count how many headlights in this pic below.

NOW WHEN ARE YOU COMING TO JHB TO DO ALL OF OURS

that might be an option depending on how many guys need it done.

Count me in to get it done if you're coming up to JHB. If not will probably pay you a visit later in the year when I come to Durbs.
