Audi A5 Convertible - So much red!

Hey Everyone

Today I got to spend some time with this lovely little car.

A Blood Red (or at least once I was done with it) Audi A5 Convertible 2.0T.

The car belongs to a dealer in Observatory, and although immaculate was in need of some correction with the instruction being to "bring her back to life".

I didnt take any before photo's, however here are a few of the damages on the paintwork:

Loads of heavy swirling, sever contamination (paint felt like rough sandpaper) and a lack of redness were what I had to begin with.

The paint was given a good seeing to with Megs Paint Cleaner which left a smooth and soft finish. The paintwork then received two hits with Chemical Guys Pro Cut 2 polish removing about 90% of the swirls but leaving me with a very hazy finish.

This was solved with a few passes of Megs Compound X and waxed with Chemical Guys Pure XXX White Paste and topped off with some Wet Butter Wax to give the red some flavour.

Finally, interior was cleaned with Smart Leather, removing a lot of staining and dirt from the driver seat with Smart Dressing used on plastics, tyres, engine bay and interior.

Rim Wax was applied to the mags with Autoglym Fast Glass used on the glass for clarity and shine.

The only enhancing in these photos are contrast auto correct in photoshop and some sharpening. The Red was truly alive and loving it!

Would rather take the silver one on its right!

No offense, but that is R429 900 more than I would pay for that Audi.

"Balance Factory Warranty, Balance Maintanance Plan" means nothing in the Audi aftersales service world. They may change a spark plug, but heaven help you if anything major goes wrong - it will either be all your fault or they drag their heels until you give up.

by the way, squeaking brakes are considered normal and Audi will not remedy under MP.

There is, but I dont bother posting on there.

Rather share this with fanatics which although BMW biased will still appreciate a good looking car.

I agree with Seether. Can't complain about Audi Aftersales service because there aren't any, especially Audi Centre Menlyn and Audi SA. I bought my wife's A4 2.0T Quattro from them last year July. It's been back five times for a problem with the gearbox. Last time they took readings and said they'll come back to me. Heard nothing yet. And that was in April. My first and last Audi

Fantastic work damn! :praise:

Looking at those pics of the damage on the paint it looks as if there is some minor oxidisation on the paint (maybe its just the pics) which seems bad for a two year old car. Maybe the quality of the paint from the manufacturer is getting worse, not unlike black E92 M3's which has one of the worst finishes out there.

The 'orange peel' effect on the BMWs is just ridiculous!
One of these fine days i'll fine the time to wet sand/polish my entire vehicle... :=):

Correct!

The paint was rather oxidized, and extremely coarse.

Felt rough and appeared hazy.

I dont think the issue lies with the manufacturers paint quality but rather with the dealer prep.

Preps like Auto Armours 3 in 1 make claims of huge longevity etc, yet only really last 2 or 3 months on the car. Often thrown in as a free extra car owners are under the impression their cars paint is protected etc.

Meanwhile the paint is slowly wearing and this is the result.

Waxes should be applied every 6 months at least, and most products that state they last a year do not.

BMW paint is notorious for the 'Orange Peel'.

2 or 3 months? Yeah... Have your gardener wash your car the day after its been Auto Armoured. (and he uses sunlight dishwashing liquid)

Bye Bye Auto Armour :=):

Just to give some feedback from this detail, the dealership sold the car within three weeks of the work being completed.

Just goes to show, no point having a car on your showroom floor if it isnt in Showroom Condition.
