Thanks mate. Really enjoying it.

The biggest difference for me is how it delivers the power. The M6 (as most Ms) has that relatively brutal power delivery. It's aggressive. The 7 is far more linear and in just keeps coming in a surge, doesn't feel like it's going to end.

Obviously with the air suspension and bigger mass, it doesn't feel as planted as the M6, but it's not meant to. Where you could feel the make up of the tarmac in the M6, the 7 just glides. In Sport mode the car changes character completely. It goes from being a soft cruiser with a distant V12 rumble to a nuclear weapon. It'll catch a lot of people off guard. So far it has been easier to live with than the M6. The amount of space and luxury seems neverending. The 7's seats are a million times better than the M6. My wife hated the seats in the M6.

Also the sheer size of it versus the M6, which in itself is not a small car. The 7 makes that feel like a tiny car in comparison.

I'll admit to it being a very different driving experience from any BMW I've owned before. I know it's primary purpose was to trawl gangsters around doing illicit deals in the back but as a driving machine, I've been left incredibly impressed. I drove to Rustenburg last week and the drive was effortless. I went on the backroads that weren't in great condition and it was sublime. What I love is the torque. Just the endless torque right through the rev range. Overtaking is incredibly easy.

In all honesty I don't think it's really fair to compare the two cars. I loved that M6, it is an epically gorgeous car. Was just time for me at nearly 50 to grow up I guess. The 7 was the best compromise (and a ton loads of car for the money, my buy price was less than a new Golf R)

I find it hard to figure out what bmw to go to next after my m6, the m8 doesn't really grab me, especially at the price point its at.

A used 7 series is appealing proposition after its depreciated a bit.

Yeah I get that as well. I'd considered going to an X5 or X7 (X7 is still way too expensive), and I agree with you on the M8, something just doesn't sit right about it for me (and completely agree on the price point).

Pre-LCI 7's are, in my opinion, very good looking cars (just can't bring myself to like the massive grilles). All the research I've done points to the 750 being the pick of the bunch (outside of the 730d), so I could've gone that route but someone said you should own a V12 at least once. And it's a dead breed now.

So I drove one of these this morning.... It is FAST! Perfect blend of comfort and performance. How many times a day do you leave the house to buy milk?
It is pretty quick. But it's an understated quick. You don't realise how fast it is going til you look at the speedo. Out to get milk every day, it's my daily to work and back (about 25kms round trip), and I usually take back roads to enjoy the drive. For a 2.2 ton car it can certainly shift, and drink fuel like it's a dehydrated cat in a desert.

Not a fan of light interiors, but this is stunning.
Me neither generally. But I have to admit that it's grown on me. It's difficult to keep it clean though, but somehow manage. My son, who's a petrol head of note (he has a collection of ride on and in BMWs), knows he isn't allowed to eat in my car (wish my wife would follow his example, and he's only 3). Was in his grandfather's car on Sunday, he gets given a biscuit and says "no grandpa, can't eat in the car...". Any sort of food on that interior will be a tough removal. But it does work very well, I really enjoy it.
