This new customer came to me on referral from Peter@AEW with a juddering clutch particularly in heavy traffic when it gets hot. The car only has 93 000km on it but has gone through 3 clutches, on the 3rd clutch change the flywheel had been replaced too in hopes of curing the judder, was fine until after around 3000km of use the judder was back. Kurt was about to give up on the car when he contacted me for advice and we discussed a game plan where I remove/inspect/replace what is needed. He had sourced a new 4th clutch/flywheel combo for safety reasons.

Notice the indentations on the thrust bearing.

Notice the heat discolouration on the fingers of the pressure plate.

Besides the blue fingers the kit is fine. The issue came from incorrect orientation of the thrust bearing, the next 2 mechanics obviously made the same mistake in the orientation and cost the owner 3 clutches.

Glad I don't have to replace the starter motor, one bolt faces the other way.

Cleaning time.

Replaced both propshaft rubber couplings at the same time.

Reused bolts get cleaned.

Some are one time use.

New flywheel installed.

New clutch slave cylinder installed, CDV deleted same time.

Bolts cleaned up nicely.

So did the under covers.

Replaced the selector shaft seal while the box was out. It was beginning to fail.

What needed copper grease got it.

While the box was out I did a fluid flush, drained it via the filling plug.

MTF LT-2 gearbox oil, expensive stuff.

Gearbox back on.

Brake and clutch fluid flush time.

Old fluid not too bad.

Clean!

Replacing shifter pivot and adding grease for smoother operation.

New exhaust gaskets.

All done underneath.

Those rusty hubs are an eye sore! Wheel bolts were stubborn too so they got some CG.

All finished and test driven, she feels fantastic. Gearbox shifting very very smooth and clutch is soft and light with no noises. I do notice the difference in clutch activation due to the CDV delete. Been keeping the customer up to date via whatsapp and he is very impressed with what he sees, hopefully he is equally impressed when he collects her tomorrow. Until then, Good night.

Excellent! Good workmanship is still alive and kicking!
I'm trying to figure out how the release bearing was supposed to be installed?

The latest thrust bearings in LUK clutch kits have 2 positions you can run it in. Previous mechanics had installed it in the other position which caused the bearing to constantly be in contact with the pressure plate weather the clutch was depressed or not.

Excellent work on this, I like your threads, so well documented on what you do on the cars.

Parts look like new! Well done! :coolShake: Customer will be very happy!

I blew through 6 clutches/2 flywheels on my 2 E90s in around 2 years.. They are not happy in traffic! OR I have no clue how to drive a manual!! :roflol:

I didn't have a lift for the first 10years working on cars so yeah I remember how I used to struggle with floor jacks, trestles and floor creeps. Never again!
The lift was the best tool I installed into my garage, it has paid for itself over and over again in the 5yrs of ownership.

Warren and his professional service were highly recommended.

Booked an appointment, discussed vehicle issues and scope of work to be carried out, and left vehicle in Warrens care.

Collected my vehicle after meticulous repairs had been carried out. Car drives like it did on day 1 when I collected It from the dealer.

Silky smooth gearbox shifts, no clutch shudder, and super crisp breaking action again.

Thank you Warren for the top notch professional product that you offer.

The repair thread was an excellent process to determine the mechanical faults and rectify them all in a cost effective manner.

Keep up this exceptional level of customers service and you will build the best
1st shop in town.:ty::ty::ty:
