I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation for the advertiser not responding.

If not, then it's the advertiser's loss. There are other places out there that market the same product, surely.

The forum and its staff do not regulate the way in which advertisers respond (or don't) to requests/posts/messages/responses etc.

What you are saying, if two advertisers are advertising the same product, one would like to be able to charge more than the other without members knowing this? Or, are you saying, that they will have to drop their prices to compete from where they will reach a price stalemate that would force them to actually provide customer service to differentiate them from their competitors?

If you are an advertiser and you publicly post item X for a price of R2.00, another advertiser selling the same item X can then PM those people interested in your item and say I will offer you item X for R1.99. You as an advertiser then lose out on your sale due to public pricing, without even knowing why.

Isn't a price mandatory on all sales?

All sales except those by advertisers. If it's their wish that you enquire via PM or however, then that's their choice.
