What makes him an idiot?

And please define enthusiast.

@K_S, If you don't get what makes him an idiot, I fear that that he is contagious..

Enthusiast: "A person who is very interested in a particular activity or subject.." Applied to this website, "BMWFanantics: The ultimate site for the S.A BMW enthusiast"

I would hazard a guess that this being a BMW enthusiast site would mean someone has an appreciation for all BMW's, including older models and would also mean one is open to learning about BMW's - since they are on the site.. Basically not being a stubborn, ignorant and unlearned tw@.. =)

This is so wrong. Newer has to be better!

Based on this logic, how much can I get an e46 CSL for?

There is an old adage, "a fool and his money are soon parted".. You came to a BMW enthusiast forum, you were given advice and you still waste your time with troubleshooting? Keep throwing $$$$ hoping it gets sorted, by people that want to make money from you.. You are spending silly cash, that you will never get back, especially on a 'normal' 3 series.. Take the advice and help from people that know these cars and are not out to make money from your situation.

But see, you started the name calling and car bashing. 'normal' 3 series? Whats a normal 3 series?

I thought that you are an enthusiast that appreciates ALL BMW's - normal and abnormal.

He wasn't being disrespectful towards the car....simply implying that there was nothing particularly special about this model.

Basically meant that he would not be able to recoup the money spent as that particular model has no 'following' and thus won't command a premium in the market place. Reason I said my car will sell for more is because of the basic economic principle of supply and demand.. E46 330i's are highly sought after (similar case with the E30 325i and E36 328i - ie, "last numbers" of the non M/limited production range), unlike the 323i. That was my only point, not to say mine is better than his - was purely a financial perspective. Comprehension skills on this thread are shocking Skit

He went and sent a link to a completely different model 323i from his and compared it to something I dont even drive.. 'Man' doesn't even know the difference between "gloating" and "bloating", yet wants to harp on and on. Then tells me not to twist facts to suit theories when that was the basis of his comment judging what my garage looks like and why. Sounds like a valuable, contributing enthusiast to me.. Bravo

Yet someone can't see how he is an idiot, get the f** out of here.. Idiocy is a disease.. Rofl

@Kyle, had the d**s actually bothered to read my threads and do more digging before making that absurd assumption (the bit about the settlement was only to prevent lowball offers, which I still received, but anyway..), it comes back to how much value/activity he has brought in the time he has been on the forum. He would understand it was a CHOICE to keep one. The E46 has my heart, which is why I decided to keep it, even after owning it for 5 years.

As has been said numerous times before across the net, the E46 came from a time when BMW was focused on building analog driver focused cars, the 330i is the pinnacle of this chassis for 'normal' E46's.. I have no intention to willingly let it go, which is why I have turned down offers of +R100k.. The car still makes me smile all these years later, why would I want to sell it for something that won't give me the same feeling..? This is what idiots battle to comprehend when they see someone has an 'old' BMW.

I don't judge people based on the cars they drive, financial circumstance is just that, a circumstance.. I would rather drive an older 'range topper', than an entry level 6 cylinder, that's just my personal preference. To each their own, I have nothing against the 323i, hell, nothing against the 320i either.. I even recommended an E36 316i to another member some days ago.

RE: 2008 E90 323I advice please!
Fuel economy was on highway driving as i use this car traveling for work. Did not realize it MUST be mentioned.

Guess the decat, exhaust, new plugs and a good dyno has alot to do with it, but anyhoo maybe i must get that checked as its definitely incorrect.

If you bought a E46 330i as a investment and a enthusiast car, and that was its sole purpose? Why not a E30 325i or even better 327is or the 333i?

My car was bought for travelling and within the price bracket and looking at a non turbo 4 door with all the features this has it came down to this and a C180 compressor (which i ended up not going for as its also forced induction via a supercharger) I did not even look at a LCI as ones i saw had higher K's on the clock and whats the point in spending more when just the front lights, bonnet, bumper and rear lights are different?

So now that i have justified my car and why i bought it. Instead of selling it broken and loosing money then buying something that might have bigger problems, it is now fixed and smoother than ever.

Seriously dont care if i had to spend 20K now on it as the E90 Msport just looks good, sounds epic (with its burbles with the decat) cruises on highways and at the end of the day . . . Epic car for the price thanks to BMW depreciation.

Ive been on many forums IE, STowners club with my fiesta RSI in mint condition which i wont ever sell, my family wagon Kuga 2.5T. VWclub with my 2.0 8v turbo citi golf and countless bike forums with my 1000RR but never have i asked some advice and it came down to your car is junk and does not meet our standards.

This is sad as there was a oak on here willing to swop his brand new solonoids into my car (Mad respect). . . which my car would have phunked up anyways as everyone was convinced its JUST the solonoids.

Oh wait its the E90 323i that is the problem. . . According to well documented DOCTORS across various platforms on the internet.

I ignored the "swop the solonoids" and all is fine comments.Because by removing the connectors on the solonoids the car idled and ran inconsistently whereas as if it was only the solonoids it will run and idle consistent but just down on power in the higher rpm as the cams dont lift and keep the valves open for longer? My exhaust cam gear was stuck on the advanced position when i first took my car in.

The root of the problem (gunk and sludge buildup, not being a E90 323i) was actually told to me by the mechanic who replaced the tappet cover and i thought he just wanted to make moola.

On the new player that entered the convo, quoting the 6 oil changes in 2 months. . . yep i wish i had the time to respond to all the SNERT you came up with, as the car did not USE the oil, that was to clean all the nasty stuff out. . .

The two links was searched in 2min, that LCI has massive K's on the clock as i stated and my pre LCI with less K's and the condition will sell for the same. On the 330i being a non Msport and he drives a Msport is does not make up for the fact that the trade value will be way less than a E90? Which was his point initially. If at the time i bought my E90 i could have found a e46 330i Msport IN MANUAL if i waited and wanted one right? (or use the internet)? For less if i waited and wanted on right? For less right?

Does it have all the comforts of a E90? nope, Bigger displacement yep, more reliable engine yep i guess but so does a 1.3 carb Toyota. Did i opt for that instead? Nope. More sort after in what way? Performance? That i have a bike for going 2.9s 0 - 100. Reliability? Fiesta never had a single problem since new. Space? Kuga makes up for that. Toy and tinkering? Reason behind the Golf. So for travelling long distances, comfort, safety and hopefully now that its sorted reliability the DEtuned N52 323i will do the job. If not camry it is.

And que the replies. . . Missing the point of the thread in 3,2,1

I take you point on everything you said....but you're missing the point of everything these guys said (before this turned into something more heated.)
The guys tried to help, you ignored the advice and then came back moaning about the same thing without adding all this extra info that you're giving now. Had you done so, the advice may have been different.

Also, everyone appreciates your car for what it is...nobody had anything bad to say about it until you started getting personal.

At this point, you should just stop replying in this thread and move on, seeing that the car is sorted now.

Yes, we banter and things, but no ill will was wished toward him despite the contents of this thread.

I think this has run its course now.

Oh Wayne, never change...

Its somewhat of an endearing quality the more you become accustomed to it and know what to expect..

But anyway, I suppose if you fix the issue by tackling it upside down and the issue is still fixed at the end, hey ho! Like he said, he had no issue spending R20k (which didn't seem the case earlier on), so all is well and good..
