E90 creaking sound when turning steering
Hi Guys

been having a issue with my e90 pre-FL , lately when turning the steering at low speeds there is a creaking sound which i cannot seem to figure out, took it to a workshop and they said its the control arms, tie rods and rack ends so had those changed but after picking up the car, the sound is still there, did anybody experience this? if so what was the issue?

Also the car starts shuddering above 100km/h not sure why because balancing and alignment was done. this car is driving me crazy.

Im in Durban btw.

Thanks

RE: E90 creaking sound when turning steering
Did your steering have a play on it before changing those mentioned parts? That would have indicated that you needed to do tie rod ends, etc.

A shudder can be a number of things, buckle wheels, spacers (If you have).

This may sound stupid but, can you describe the sound better? Lol. Also, how is your shocks?

No steering had no play on it, just listen to the guys and changed it. shocks are fine and it sounds like either metal rubbing on metal or plastic rubbing against metal. 1 wheel does have a small ding on it but doubt it will create the vibration from 100km/h i may be wrong tho

What do i check on the top strut mountings or shock mountings?

+1, Almost impossible to check without removing your strut/shock

RE: E90 creaking sound when turning steering
Il have to check it out this weekend, one other thing tho, when the car is on a 2 pole lift and turning steering there is no noise, but when back down the noise is extremely loud for like 2 or 3 days and then it softens down. Searched the net and cant find anyone with a solution.

Yes because you unload the suspension when on the lift.

RE: E90 creaking sound when turning steering
Hi, what you can try is put your hand on the coil spring when the vehicle is on the deck and then turn the steering - be careful you don't crush your hand. If you do feel a vibration on the coil spring it would be worth your while to remove the strut and test the mounting.

As for the vibration when driving - check if your rims haven't been rep[aired. I have had it several times where repaired rims are the cause. Would suggest you get donor rims and then retest and see if the vibration is gone.

Cheers
