My DIY wheel refurb
So this will be my second wheel refurb, hopefully this one wont take as long as the previous one Bluebiggrin

Havent decided 100% on the final finish yet, but I will get to that Iono

Stripping:

Decided that sanding would take too much arm work, and sandblasting leaves a finish that will require me to sand quite a bit too, so I decided to just strip them.

Bought some paint stripper and paintbrush at builders warehouse, and then some dish scourers at PnP

Before stripper:

RE: My DIY wheel refurb
Did you spray them yourself or send them in?

If yourself, how about some DIY info after the "bare aluminium" bit ...

RE: My DIY wheel refurb
I should of cleared that up Bluebiggrin

after doing some rattle can stuff around the house, I realised it would be very tough to get the finish/quality i wanted.

the other option was to buy a budget compressor and paint kit from makro, but again, not sure of the quality.

anyway, I ended up doing the metal reburb (lips curb rash, scratches, etc) using JB weld.

I then saw some example work done by a place called International Rim Repair in Ottery, very good work, and very reasonable prices.

The paint I custom mixed at cape paint and panel in maitland. It is a base grey with black, about 80/20

So including the cost of the paint, and the job, it was less than the cost of me buying a compressor and paint. Obvs I would also have needed to get primer, and clear, and having never used a gun before, probably a couple of goes. Also sanding is a bitch Bluebiggrin
