Midas Light Bulbs - Mdu1990 - 10-01-2019 07:01 PM

Any downside/negative effect on car electronics from replacing 12v bulbs with Midas chinese parts?

Cheap people pay twice...

That's the only downside.

I generally agree with that statement, but the cheap Midas globes have outlasted any Osram product that I have ever bought and Osram costs about 5 times more.

Phillips seems like the way to go thoughThumbs

Yes, there are some downsides to the very "cheap and nasty" stuff. On some of the 2nd hand cars I've bought (specifically E46 and E39), I had lots of bulb warning errors. 90% of the time this was traced to faulty bulbs, which were usually unbranded bulbs when I removed them - even though they worked, their resistance is not consistent as they age, causing the car to throw random errors.

First try to shop around for all the decent brands - there are some alternatives to Osram at better prices - go to one of the bigger Midas branches, where they have a good selection. Only when you get really stuck, should you consider the generic/no-name/chinese stuff.

I've used both Phillips from Midas and Hella from Goldwagen on both my e90 pre-lci and lci cars and did not have a single issue.
even the xenon bulbs i used did not give issues

Cheap bulbs can also damage the bulb holder if they overheat and melt the holder and plastics , I have seen this on some cars . The can also cause damage to the wiring as well , So watch out for that , I would rather go Phillips or Osram and Honestly 12V bulbs from those Phillips and Osram are not all that expensive compared to what you would pay so called for "Cheap Chinese bulbs" ( I find that they are not at all cheap ) Considering the risks they pose . It really is a case of penny wise pound foolish imo.
