Actually had *THIS EXACT* chat the other day. A 458 speciale is ~ 8-10m locally, even a normal one is ~4-5m.

For the super rich, whatever, but if you have any financial limitation in your life (i.e. net worth <say 150m), how does a car like this make sense? You can have a *VERY* nice collection for that money - for 10m you're into a 992GT3 touring as a daily (say 6m spec'd out), a GT4 for 1.5-2m (981), and 1m left for a nice spec golf or equivalent as a daily driver and 1m left for a project car.

ASSUMING money is no consideration then whatever, but the world north of like R8m on cars is so rarified - and the returns so marginal (Hell, I'd rather have a gt3 touring outright over a 458speciale, I think it looks better, sounds better, it's probably as fast)...

Have a 458 Speciale, bought in 2014 and after 12 years I’ve been offered double my investment…now looks are subjective, I’m a Porsche lover… also have a 911 Turbo, and I love the new GT3 (The RS specifically) but I do think the 458 looks better than the GT3…I can also categorically tell you the 458 Speciale sounds MUCH MUCH better than any stock Porsche on offer today….the Speciale may not be the fastest car on the road by today’s standards, but it is 12 years old now…personally if I had to choose, I think I’d rather have one 458 Speciale and a daily driver over a 4 car garage….

Haha, tastes are subjective! But given they're ~ half the price a 991.2GT3T in the right colour... I'm biased but it's probably the best looking non-limited car ever made.

Was indeed, been getting some lekker seat time, went on a *long* run this AM. Car is *FILTHY* dirty now. 3 runs without a clean will do that to it!

10 guesses for who drives the E36 HAHAHA, CPT roads wildly busy, we *started* at 5.30 and by the end of our run around 7.30ish it was getting ridiculously busy alread, no idea how the other groups who pulled into Franschoek got a good run in with how busy it was (for reference of how stupid it was getting, we saw guys downhill *SKATING* on the pass...)

Was a lekker mix of cars. I at *NO* point even saw that green GTR, thing must be an absolute weapon though given the gaps he was putting on drivers meaningfully more competant than me.

Man's normally done his session working the main road by 4am, now he has to sit his sore bum in a racing seat!!!

Gave it a clean this AM, can see some rash, the area around the rear wheel next to that intake takes an absolute beating, so if anyone decides to get into one of these, that and the front bumper/lights are the #1 areas to get PPF'd (fortunately I have PPF on that rear arch). I also have a lekker stone ding on my a pillar, which is not PPF'd ":( that and a nice chip in the windscreen.

The paint overall though still looks great, I'm *OBVIOUSLY* immensely bias, but Gentian is by a distance my favourite colour of the non-PTS colours. If I had *much* more money I'd have likely ended up with quite a different spec (a brown interior would have been the dream). But of course I'm not just printing the stuff, sadly!

Nearing the 3yr mark now and I can't see a world where I sell the car in the short term. When it's finished it's multiple extensions of plan (I bought it with 5yrs, and you're allowed to extend to 12), then I might need to think differently, but it's very hard to plan *CARS* a decade ahead. A decade ago I was just joining the forum and starting to ask questions about Z4 3.0Si's (I still actually rate these!), I ended up with a bit of extra cash and a Z4M, and the GT4 feels like a very natural progression, a similarly focused car, but *more* in pretty much every way. With a baby in house and plans to do house projects more over the near future car stuff is taking a back seat for now. With Android auto in the car (my biggest bugbear before getting the carlinkit) I don't foresee any mods. A decent exhaust is a R100k+ job, and if you want to go childish make it more like R250k. There are cool looking intake mods but those also cost ungodly sums (probably like R400k+ landed). So for now I doubt there are any mods on the way. This run was one of the first ones where buckets would have made a material difference in comfort - sadly there's almost no universe where I can justify that money either!

Anyway, safely parked and we await good weather, quieter roads and 2026.

This colour is truly beautiful and a car that easily warrants the long-term ownership you have planned.

Always jealous of the Cape Town runs on those beautiful, albeit busy roads. The 2025 Cape Town trip didn’t work out, however planning is on the way to make 2026 happen.
