Strange/Sudden L/100km Range Increase
Need some help guys.

as per my Project touring thread, I recently done some Suspension and Brake work on my Touring.

Long story short, I use to get about 7.1L/100km Open road and about 11L-11.5L/100km on my daily short trips.

After replacing the Brakes on the car, it shot up to anything from 8L/100Km open road and 12-13L/100km...

prior to the Brake change ( Discs and pads all round ), the handbrake was not working as i was chasing that HOWLING issue and i thought it was drum shoes. it was Completely slacked off so would not work when parked.

My assumption is that i adjusted the handbrake incorrectly cause thats the only other thing i did when installing the brakes.

Like its biting, or holding the car back maybe??
She does feel like she has been pulling alittle heavy

Also, on a flat surface, i have allowed the car to coast to see if it feels like its slowing down as if the brakes/Shoes are making some sort of contact but could not detect anything

I cant seem to think why its not the brakes ...

Its not bearings. my oil usage is Well within BMW's "OK" usage for this motor. something like 250ml topup after every 1000 to 1500km driven

Anyone experience this before??
Or some advice on what i can look into??

It does sound like your brakes are binding or sticking , Or possible as I have seen this on a car in a scrap yard , where the lining of the Handbrake shoes , breaks off and kind of wobbles around in the assembly area . Maybe take it to a garage and have them check on the handbrake or lift the car up and turn the wheels and see if the brake pads are unusually tight on the disk.

RE: Strange/Sudden L/100km Range Increase
1. Can be MAF related.
2. Vacuum leak causing erratic readings spiking economy.
3. Might be the brakes. Jack up the arse put in Neutral and spin the tires, repeat at the front. Better yet find a big empty piece of highway drive there using as little brakes as possible over a 5 to 10km distance, speed up to 100 and just coast till a stop. if your brakes are anything other than warm to the touch you have binding brakes.

@Rotinaj ,

Thanks for the input
already bought CRC Maf Cleaner at Masterparts this morning.
Also noted the Aftermarket AirFilter looks Pretty Gunky. lol. Will replace with original one.

Not sure its Vaccum related but will bare that in mind

It happened instantly after replacing the brakes and adjusting the handbrake..

Thanks for the Input Guys.

Appreciate it

I highly doubt it's brake related. If it was you'd smell it after a few kms of driving and see smoke pouring out of your wheels.

It might have been coming on for a while before you changed your brakes but only noticed it after doing the brakes.

RE: Strange/Sudden L/100km Range Increase
I had this issue with my e82 after BMW did a full disc and pad replacement.
They ended up having to change all pads and discs again as it was binding. They bled the system after refitting and it was fine thereafter.
