thumbdown Saving an e70 ..with some questions
Ok you guys all know that I'm slowly but surely busy to repair a accident damaged e70 50i.
Vechile was bought at a bank repo auction as a non runner.
I was very blessed that engine wise this car is fantastic..
Here's a fewpics of her current state....sorry for the poor pic quality

As you guys can see...theres still a lot of work to be done.
Panel gabs etc are horrific at this stage but everything will be aligned decently at the panel shop.
Only reason I have assembled everything is to make certain we have all the required parts.
I'm still short of some parts..will order them next week from the agents.

I'm currently having a issue with the windscreen and headlight washer pumps.
Not one of the 3 are working...checked the fuses and that seems ok.
Will check all the fuses today just to make certain.
What worry me is that I don't hear any relay activating when I pull or push the wiper stalk.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated on this.

diagnostics to confirm.

However, based on the damage, I would check for a ground, but your going to be poking around for days where diagnostics would give you a much better clue

I will be on the other side if anybody needs me Bluebiggrin

RE: Saving an e70 ..with some questions
Remember a problem i had with my first X5 E53 which had the problem the lights would go slightly dimmer when idling, also some lights on the dash would come on. Asked around but could not get an answer. This problem lasted about a year. I even replaced the battery but no peace. Then i decided this is it, i have to find the problem. Started in the boot and removed the spare wheel and pump cover under the spare wheel. Tightened every bolt i could find and when i tightened the earth cable to the body in the boot i found i could ever so slightly tighten it, just enough to made me think i have found the problem. Voila! that was it. Problem solved! Only joy from then on! (I had before laid an earth strap from the engine to the body but that did not help as the problem lay at the main earth cable to the battery) What i am trying to say is that as said above, it might be an earth problem as per zaleonardz.

RE: Saving an e70 ..with some questions
Thanks guys I will start and check everything..
Will do another scan today.
Just need to stop driving it ....that v8 sound is addictivesmile bounce..and get it into my workshop and start with fault finding.
"Luckily" it's only the washer pumps and then also the button that do the rapid demist/defrost on the windscreen that's also dead.
Everything else working perfectly.
Here's a very helpful link that gives wiring diagrams on Bmw

Ok these are the current fault codes..
This screen really worrys me because it wasn't there and it also don't want to reset/clear

Then this one as well

The D36A code did clear.
The others stay there.
I don't have a clue where to go from here
dunno anymore

RE: Saving an e70 ..with some questions
Forget about the washer pump for now, and focus on your CAN2.

If you read that, you will see that it cannot comm with the HKL, which is ride height control, and as such that could be causing the transfer case fault.

I would check your shocks for any torn off/broken wires.

I am not too sure if the E70 has byteflyte on the shocks just yet, but if it is shorting out comms, you are going to get a myriad of issues down the line.

I will be on the other side if anybody needs me Bluebiggrin

RE: Saving an e70 ..with some questions
Thank you very very much Zaleonardz
Ok at least now I now what to look at.
Funny thing is that when I took the left front wheel off the air suspension pump did start running...probably trying to get the car level .
I will start at the left front wheel well first...maybe I damaged or pulled a plug out by mistake while I was working there.
Even though my tester is a great help....it doesn't explain the fault code unfortunately ....
How did you get that it has something to do with the ride height control?
And again.. Thank you very much for your help...i really do appreciate it

RE: Saving an e70 ..with some questions
Had time yesterday to do some more tests.
Tested the rear air suspension by lifting the front of the vechile a bit.
The air compressor did kick in after a lot of lifting and lowering.
Then according to internet the HKL module is for the automatic tailgate.
Nothing wrong with that ....works perfectly.
I'm starting to think/hope that the system locked a fault when I pulled the fuses trying to sort the washer issue. The scanner I have can read the HKL module but can't delete the fault codes on it for one or other reason. On all the other modules I have the option to clear the codes...but not on that one.
There's also no warning lights at all on the dash.
I will definitely need to get this x5 to someone that can sort a few issues as soon as the panelbeaters are finished.
There's some menus missing on the I drive..for example I can't set the flickers to give only 3 flashes...the vechile dont lock its doors when driving off....no settings for visual signals when you lock/unlock the car and also if I have a warning on the dash it doesn't register on the I drive.
So a few things still to be sorted

Thank you very much...thats really a very kind gesture from your side.
I'm from up north polokwane...but will happily drive her to gauteng if needed...any excuse to take a drive in her is a good onesmile bounce
Let me just first sort out the last of the cosmetic repairs.

You really are the man. Maximum respect!!

We have an e70 2007 3.0si and i can assure you that with the trouble its given us so far, I could never get around even touching an accident one even if it were donated free with some spare cash to spare
