RE: Castrol SA Fight
No. Mobil 1 is not the only true Synthetic Oil on the market.

Any lubricant with a Viscosity Index of more than 160 is generally what is consider a true Fully Synthetic and is usually derived from a man made base usually categorized as a group 5 base lubricant - An example being Mobil 1, Ravenol etc.

Castrol "Synthetic" oils are merely mineral oils with Synthetic Properties. So they take a mineral oil and add defining additives to it to give it the unique character they want. This is cheaper to produce and is usually grouped under group 3 or 4 lubricants (Hydrocracked or PAO Synthetics).

Oils like Castrol Edge 5W30 are usually hydrocracked lubricants, much like Castrol SLX and the lubricants used in your vehicle at the dealers.

So all you have actually succeeded in is changing a word on a data sheet.

RE: Castrol SA Fight
Well if Castrol Could spec that on the bottle, I wouldn't have had this issue, was such a mission finding it out, because they don't mention anything, hence me taking it so far.

How have other users battled to get the same information out of them?

That's what I've tried to clear up, so future Castrol Users can see what they are using making it easier for themFencelook

RE: Castrol SA Fight
Or you could just go buy another oil and let them do what they do best?

As long as it has an API SM Rating and a LL04 Rating for BMW on it then it doesnt matter what the packaging says.

RE: Castrol SA Fight
That varies per car, the API Rating / Longlife Approval is what really matters.

You're better off with Castrol Edge.

Makro has it on special sometimes I think for less than 400 bucks for 5 litres.
